Where the disagreement happened—Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told Kenny Pickett there'd be an open competition in the spring/summer if the team signed Russell Wilson. So Pickett felt misled when he was told Wilson would get first crack with the 1s in OTAs, and asked for the trade.

Just to add this, why would you want to stay with a team who went with a guy who tried and failed at QB / to the point where he was out of the league the year prior / but got the start over you because he had the “hot hand” when you were cleared to play

Just to add to this, the focus on who was told what about competing / starting / who takes the first rep at OTAs etc. is all fluff.

Pickett was traded to a place where he will have no chance of starting. He at least had that at some level here with a 35-year-old on a one-year deal.

It clearly wasn't the opportunity that was the problem.

I’d want out if I’m Pickett too. Tomlin has mismanaged the QB position ever since Ben had elbow surgery in 2019

How did this go sideways? Mike Tomlin had promised Kenny Pickett he’d get a chance to compete. Pickett learned about the Russell Wilson signing on social media Sunday night. When they spoke the next morning, Tomlin told Pickett that Wilson was in pole position and would get the first reps. So, Pickett asked for a trade. Now he’s an Eagle.
