@Dr_TheHistories Takht e rustam is not its real name. We don't know what this stupa was called. Chinese records may give us some clues. The rustam connection likely stems from its islamic period mythological reattribution away from its buddhist narrative.

@Waheedofkabul @alkozaidurrani By mongols? Interesting. I didn't know it was termed by the Mongols. Nonetheless, morphologically the -ig suffix is a typical construct found in the middle period aryan languages. As for the noun itself, from Persian sources we know that Tazi means Arab.

@debalkhi @alkozaidurrani They are persianised Pashtuns, most of them. The name they gave themselves is a different issue. Tazi meant Arab but not all of them were Arabs. So the original Tajiks was a minor group. There are multiple layers to why non-Pashto speaking Aryans call themselves Tajik nowadays.
