@GovNedLamont Your comment that mask mandates in NY have not been effective is unfounded. Transmission would be worse without them. Masks work to prevent the spread of all respiratory diseases. You are just afraid of losing the next election as opposed to using science to provide leadership.
@GovNedLamont@SenBlumenthal A vaccination only strategy was ill-advised. Testing should have always been part of the picture. Europe was able to protect the IQ and mental health of the students by regular rapid testing of teachers and students. Huge failure in planning. What a nightmare!!!!
Peter Doshi in today's NY Times reports that the Grade 3 adverse event rate (severe enough to prevent daily activity) from the Moderna vaccine is 17.4%. That's in people under age 65. In older people, the rate is surely higher than that. These are shockingly high injury rates. 😳
Plant of the day: passionflower (Passiflora incarnata). Won't reliably overwinter here, but keeps going strong in a sunny room. The leaves are gently bitter and sweet when fresh, and the fruit is a delicious rich sour (sadly never on my indoor vines)
Plant of the day: eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus). Formerly Siberian ginseng, this Araliacea grows into a thorny shrub 20 feet tall. Plenty of roots, thick and aromatic when fresh, can be harvested every year. A reliable and balanced adaptogen. Simmer it down to thick tea
Plant of the day: hawthorn (Crataegus, likely a C. macrosperma hydrid). Now, at the end and straggly, is when I love her most. Not the white flowers of May, not the full branches of late August, but here, at the edge of fall and the edge of the field, tattered, sweetest heart
These and many more were eaten daily before the invention of pharmaceuticals. And many are still revered and regularly consumed by people in places where costly drugs are out of reach. In fact, many drugs derived directly from spices and herbs.
Governor Lamont sadly seems disconnected from the reality of life for most residents. Most of us are not planning on eating out inside of restaurants and cafes anytime soon. Most of us will not be visiting tourist attractions.
"I think sometimes it discourages work. I would put off this extra $600 true-up they’re talking about,” Lamont said.“I don’t think we need that.” I think there are many Connecticut residents who would disagree with the Gov on this. https://t.co/sTy5Io83jN

Working in the soil helps to build our microbiome. Being outside we also get our healthy vitamin D. We get all of those benefits from gardening plus the nutrients in our yummy, homegrown food. I encourage you to get out there and plant some food!
