💢 BREAKING: The U.S. State Department summoned Iraq’s ambassador in Washington after an “ambush of American diplomats” in Baghdad on April 8, blaming Iran-aligned militias operating from Iraqi territory, according to a State Department readout.

Washington cited “hundreds” of recent attacks targeting U.S. personnel, facilities, and regional interests, and warned Baghdad it has failed to prevent them despite acknowledging efforts from security forces.

The U.S. also accused elements tied to the Iraqi government of providing “political, financial, and operational cover” to militias, saying this is damaging bilateral ties. It demanded Iraq take immediate steps to dismantle the groups.
