Attended a panel moderated by @ChinmayTumbe on the history of the Tata & Bajaj Groups. A few facinating points:

1) The Bajaj fortune began with Jamnalal Bajaj who was adopted by a wealthy Vidharbha-based moneylender Seth Bachraj as his grandson. He grew up without a father and looked to MK Gandhi to fill that role, later in his life. He followed Gandhiji's advice is most things.

2) The struggles that Rahul Bajaj had to go through against the MRTP Act, limiting the no of scooters he could produce - the long waiting lists this resulted in were not a matter of pride for him.

3) Jamshedji Tata's two sons putting their money in trusts that control the group to this day.

4) Both groups setting up their car & scooter manufacturing in Pune since the then collector of Pune, Mr Barve offered them vast tracts of land. This has been such a large part of Pune's prosperity.

5) The Tata archives in Pune continue to document and preserve the group history. Worth a visit.
