The reformation alterpeice. On the right is the pastor (Martin Luther in this case) with his left finger on the text and his right finger pointed at Christ crucified. (The primary calling of a pastor.) On the left the congregation looks to Christ as he is preached from the Word.
Jesus teaches that after the Resurrection of the dead reality will be single and sexless. Marriage is a temporary ordinance. What are the implications for singleness? A church and culture obsessed with sex and gender? Overly romantic views of marriage? Purity culture? Patriarchy?
@howertonjosh This is what happens when powerful, rich, white house connected charlatans do theology. They use their platform to preach what they do not understand . They preach the commandments of men as if they were divine. By doing this they obscure Christ and the cross.
@thescottbarber This is why Josh is willing to kiss the feet of Paula White. He is willing to join with heretics for nationalism while he punches down on Xians who are orthodox but see CN as a heresy. He is an example of a man who talks to much and studies to little.
@thescottbarber Josh' framing of this comes from an anemic cosmology and a juvenile understanding of the Gospel for all nations. In his framework God is a weakling and needs to be propped up by "culture wars" he never commanded. The idea that God is pulling for the GOP is comical and tragic.
Someone asked me if I believe every person of the current administration is a bad actor. My answer is "I don't know." But I will say that good people working in an evil, racist, facist system can still do evil things. Real Christians can and will do evil in an evil system.
I can accept that an evil man who is surrounded by evil people is running this country. I can even accept that are doing evil things that cannot be stopped because of power dynamics. What I will never accept is that so called "Christians" support this evil regime with glee.
Reminder:
Undocumented Immigrants, Migrants, and Asylum-Seekers are humans who deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. They’re not “illegal aliens” who deserve to be treated like vicious criminals.
Unpopular opinion: You should be more devoted to showing up to church on time than you are to making it to your mon-fri job. Too many people who would never miss work have no problem going to church 60% of the time.
Senate Republicans just sold out the sick and the hungry to cut taxes for the rich and the powerful.
What would Jesus do about this “Big Beautiful Bill”?
I think he would flip over the tables of injustice and call on us to do the same.
@GavinNewsom Please understand that there are many Theologically Conservative Christians that think MAGA is a cult. MJ is guilty of exchanging Grace for the oppressive laws of his unbiblical ideology.
Many good Christian colleges out there, but a straightforwardly secular school with a good RUF/local church can often be as good or better than some publicly Christian universities for cultivating faith. FWIW
