Reformation Day Lectionary:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood to be received by faith. - Romans 3:23-25
This sentence contains the entire Scripture, Man's sin and God's grace brought together in Jesus Christ. When Paul writes that all have sinned, he means you. Unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. But when he adds that Christ was given to propitiate sin, that includes you too. Yes, even you.
The Gospel is the love of God for poor, miserable sinners, a love so great that he provided for us what we could not provide for ourselves, giving Jesus Christ to atone for sin, reconcile us to Him, and grant eternal life to those whose works had earned them eternal death.
The kingdom of heaven is at hand for you today. Repent and believe the Gospel!
