@Habubrats71 Stationed at Kadena from 87-90 flying KC-135A's. Got to ride with the Beale tankers to do an SR refueling once. Habu hill very popular. Also got a ride in the F-1 5 family model once. The O-club at Kadena had all of us plus the Navy P-3 guys on many nights. Miss those days!
@Habubrats71 Checklists are very underrated. I use them and set them up for my family in everyday life. In the airplane they are critical and checklist discipline is learned/taught in the early stages of flight training
@Habubrats71@PresNav probably remembers. KC-135Q was a special tanker that carried only JP7 in the central tanks that was required for the Habu. Most(?) other jets used JP4 and you could not contaminate the JP7 tanks with JP4. Also the airspeed required for SR71 refueling was the fastest
@Habubrats71 If the crew had a little extra fuel when they got back from their mission, it was a treat to see them do a low approach/touch-and-go and come back around for their landing.
@Habubrats71 I was stationed in Okinawa on Kadena from 88-91 and witnessed many SR-71 sorties. There was always a crowd of locals on a hill just off base to watch as well.

@Habubrats71 Loved seeing the SR fly when I was stationed at Kadena from '87 to '90. Always lots of locals on the hills around base to watch it as well. If we were flying at the time, we had to clear the flight pattern when it was coming back in from its mission to land.
@Habubrats71 The locals always seemed to know when “Habu” was going to fly a mission and lined the fences around the base to watch. Occasionally one would have a little extra fuel when they returned an would do a low approach then go-around to landing. Everyone stopped to watch.
