The Legislative Fiscal Bureau has released detailed cost estimates of the voucher bill. When I first tried to download the file I received a message that the file was corrupt (talk about irony). You can open the file at https://t.co/JPb2uRaur0
In the bill there are no requirements that a school's spending decisions be shared with anyone, no audit requirements, and no rules on how the schools spend the money.
Yet the bill's supporters claim parents will just -know- money is getting misspent 🤔

When Govs Abbott (aka LG Patrick), Reynolds, Stitt et al recite #industryfunded studies about #schoolvoucher impacts, here’s what the last decade of research actually says:
Vouchers had #COVID19 and Katrina-sized test score drops for kids who left #publicschools.
A minute from yesterday's Iowa House Education Reform Committee meeting that is with your time if you've been paying attention to the voucher legislation in Iowa.
Let’s get a Public School Innovation Fund started. Remove burdensome regulations. 100M in Year 1. 250M in Year 2. 340M in Year 3 and ongoing. Feels BOLD but how could we possibly fund it? And serve ALL kids? Wait a minute…
@IAGovernor Just the word “Private” with school doesn’t sit well. Public monies shouldn’t fund our Private schools who can deny enrollment for cause that ultimately denies parent “choice”.

How much will this private school voucher scheme cost Iowa taxpayers?
Year 1: $107M
Year 2: $156M
Year 3: $314M
Year 4 & every year after: $341M
That's almost $1 billion diverted away from public education -- and that’s just the beginning. #ialegis
