Thank you for sharing this. Your story is exactly why this discussion matters.
For us, this has never been just about whether games come on a disc or as a download. Physical games represent consumer choice, affordability, game preservation, ownership, lending, gifting, collecting, and access for people who can't always afford to buy new digital titles at full price.
Many players have memories like yours—finding used games, trading with friends, borrowing from family, or saving up for a special collector's edition. Those experiences have been part of gaming for decades.
We'll continue speaking up because we believe players should have the option to choose how they buy and enjoy their games. Supporting digital distribution and preserving physical releases don't have to be mutually exclusive. We believe there's room for both.
Thank you for adding your voice to the conversation. Every respectful message helps demonstrate that this issue matters to many players, and we'll continue advocating for that choice alongside the community.
Sorry, I'm going to keep speaking up about this because it genuinely means a lot to me.
@PlayStation, please reconsider the decision to move to a digital only future.
I've spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on Sony products over the years. I recently bought a PS5 Pro with the disc drive, and I've been a PlayStation Plus subscriber for years. Do I buy digital games? Absolutely. Like most people, I appreciate the convenience. But I also make a point to buy physical copies because ownership matters.
I never know if there will come a day when I can't download one of my favorite games anymore or lend it to a friend. Physical media isn't just about collecting plastic cases. It's about preserving something that genuinely means something to me.
I'm also the kind of fan who buys collector's editions of the series I love. More often than not, I end up buying multiple copies of the same game because I want to support the developers while also owning a physical version that I can keep for years to come.
This is personal for another reason.
I grew up in a low income family. My parents couldn't afford to buy my brothers and me every new game we wanted, but they always did everything they could. They waited for sales, bought used copies, traded games, and stretched every dollar to give us experiences we never would have had otherwise.
Those games became some of my favorite childhood memories, and I'm forever grateful for the sacrifices they made.
Without physical media, many of those moments simply wouldn't have been possible.
Please don't take that choice away from future generations of players.
It was the PS1’s CD drive that really helped PlayStation take off and stand out from the competition… from CDs to DVDs to Blu-ray, and now thinking that the PS6 might not have physical media at all feels pretty wild.
@fwprism L take. If he does not care or think it is the same, then okay. His opion. But I want my consoles to have discs. Nothing will change for him, if PS continue with discs.
PlayStation has abandoned all social media for over 24 hours after announcing the end of physical games
“This isn’t the first time Sony quit social media: it took a 72-hour timeout following the closure of Bluepoint earlier this year.”

French presidential candidate comments on PlayStation ending physical games and the diskless GTA 6.
"Tomorrow, you will pay without ever owning anything. No loan, no resale, no guarantee of keeping what we've paid for [...] Players have rights too!"
