I’ve spent many weeks on the island in the past but this is the first time I’ve returned to Koh Tao in 20 years. This is where, in 2003, I met my late wife and my reluctance to return has in part been about preserving old memories.

The amount of development all over the island since I was here is remarkable, I find it almost unrecognisable. In a way this is helpful, rather than corrupting existing memories it feels more like a visit to a new location.
