August 1, 1920: Thomas McGuire born in Ridgewood. McGuire moved to Florida and joined the Army Air Corps in 1941. He became one of America’s leading aces with 38 kills before being killed in 1945 in an accidental crash. In 1948, McGuire AFB named for him.

May 14, 1844: Delegates to a state Constitutional Convention met in Trenton. The convention finished its work on June 29 and submitted the new constitution to a popular referendum, which approved it on August 13. It was the 2nd of 3 NJ state constitutions.
