Aganglionosis/Hirschsprung's disease. The acetylcholinesterase stain (an ancient histochemical stain) highlights presynaptic parasympathetic nerve twigs extending into the lamina propria because they cannot synapse on submucosal ganglion cells. Calretinin shows loss of fibrils.

Gross presentation of colonic adenocarcinoma is generally different depending on the location of the tumor
Right colon: exophytic, polyploid, does not usually obstruct
Left colon: centrally ulcerated, serpiginous border, tends to obstruct
