🔬 Stain of the Week: Ziehl–Neelsen
AKA: The “Tuberculosis Detective” stain 🕵️♂️
🟥 What it stains:
Acid-fast bacilli turn **bright red**, while the background goes blue like tiny red chili peppers in a blue soup 🌶️🫐
📜 Tiny bit of history
Invented in the 1880s by Friedrich Ziehl (a bacteriologist ) and Franz Neelsen (a pathologist).
One provided the dye, the other added the heat and together they created one of the most iconic stains in pathology 🔥🎨
