This Wednesday on JSC Conversations, we host a lawyer whose name has become synonymous with taxation law in Uganda.
Dr Oscar Kambona is a founding and senior partner at @KAAdvocates, he is one of the country’s leading tax practitioners, and a lawyer who has spent his career at the intersection of law, revenue and economic policy. He recently earned a Doctor of Laws (LLD) in Taxation from Makerere University, adding academic depth to a practice already respected across the profession.
Beyond practice, he has helped shape the next generation of lawyers, teaching taxation at the Law Development Centre and contributing to the intellectual development of Uganda’s tax jurisprudence.
In short, when Uganda’s legal profession speaks about tax, Dr Kambona is one of the voices that defines the conversation.
This week he joins us to talk all things tax; the powers of the taxman, the protections of the Constitution, and the delicate balance between raising revenue and safeguarding the rights of taxpayers.
If you are a lawyer, a business owner, a policymaker, or simply a citizen trying to understand how the tax system really works, this is a conversation you should not miss.

Friends and colleagues, an application has been filed to block the upcoming ULS elections for nominees to the Judicial Service Commission. This meeting is a constitutional mandate under Article 146, imposed on the Uganda Law Society to uphold democracy and the rule of law. It is troubling that anyone would attempt to undermine the democratic voice of ULS members and subvert clear constitutional provisions. I am glad the High Court has added me as a party to this case, and I am fully committed to opposing this attempt to silence our members. See you in court. #LawyersLawyer
In June 2021, I and a group of friends raised attention to what injustices in the process of release of marks and graduation at LDC. @elisonk was one of the few practitioners to reach out to us, empathise with our cause, and urge others to listen to us, and for solutions to be found.
In the time hence, I have come to know him as a friend and have had the honor of engaging with him as an adversary and as a colleague.
In him I’ve found a warm and kind person who has a real and genuine zeal to have the judiciary work for all, to remove the barriers to justice and to achieve an independent, efficient and effective judiciary.
I have been happy to find in him support for causes for injustice and a deep hatred for unfairness or illegality. I have found a blazing determination to change things and make things work NOW!
Therefore, whereas I have typically taken a stance against endorsing candidates in society elections, I find that I must make a happy exception.
I’m confident that Elison has the relevant knowledge, experience, energy and conviction to represent the society at JSC, and to undertake the crucial work of reforming and enhancing the justice system.
Mr. Karuhanga therefore receives my firm endorsement, and I encourage my fellow members of the society to unreservedly vote him.
