@HydRE36406593@cybtr We underestimate risk (to self and others) to optimize for convenience and thrift - no helmets, wrong side driving etc.
I often worry about the large trucks carrying boulders/steel pipes sticking out. I make it a point to not drive behind/alongside them.
Roads aren't safe!
@Sudh_Luv4Equity For me, the clincher was even corps like Goog, consistently ranked among the best places to work, let go of ppl by cutting them off systems during the middle of their workday. No incremental value in chasing top 1-2% in the corps at the expense of other priorities in life
@abhishec_s Beautifully articulated. It’s a refreshingly honest take on navigating a probabilistic endeavor, having clarity in one’s ability while retaining the humility to accept that outcomes are ultimately beyond our control.
@Finance_Weights Deduct it from the deposit & move on,it’s usually a day’s fix.
With families, I've seen scribbled walls, clogged sewage from diapers, freq complaints abt quality of muni water, burnt bulbs, smells in corridors & worst of all refusing to vacate
Sample size > 100 over a few yrs
@archerabi@AreteHospitals Been there many times. Your experience seems an exception. They usually charge a registration + consultation fee.
We were even denied cashless for a minor surgery because the surgeon took only non-insurance cases. Ended up going to KIMS next door.
@kendheswapnil Following your discourse on X for similar reasons. ~20yoe in fin services, FI, CFP.
Contemplating the RIA vs MFD path when I'm done with corporates. Met thoughtful, pragmatic people on both sides.
Appreciate your posts. Notice a sharper, hard-hitting tone lately :)
@ravihanda@MarcellusInvest I may be wrong, but everything about them so far suggests that writing, storytelling, running a company and stock picking can be highly mutually exclusive skills
@ravihanda Theoretically, they offer strategies that aren't available in MFs, so that they may perform even when markets move down or sideways.
In practice, the outcomes may not be different from that of a hybrid/multi-asset fund.
But, novelty sells better :)
@Crazynaval I thought of pointing him to the tax saver fund and tagging you yesterday when I saw his post, but I refrained, as he might be doing it just for engagement.
I also wanted to ask whether he counted himself among the clueless 80% or the enlightened 0.01%
@Sudh_Luv4Equity That's true, but whether it's an RIA or a distributor, integrity is the key, and it takes time to establish.
But the regulatory barriers are too high for even well intentioned folks to become RIAs
@Finance_Weights A colleague bought a villa here in 2021 for ~3cr. Think the project was launched in 2013. He felt confident as it was almost complete.Great surroundings & comm but there are still open issues b/w builder & residents
Gr8 investment in hindsight, but there are red flags all along
@realhyderabad86 If pollution dictated real estate value, Delhi/NCR would have stagnated long ago. Yet, the country’s costliest addresses sit in India’s most polluted city.
Real estate value is less about clean air and more about the location, connectivity, and status.
12 years ago, I lived near a dump in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi. There were often cockroaches in my house.
To go to office, I would walk to Akshardham Metro station. And, the line would often stretch (sometimes) even outside the station during peak office hours.
To beat this traffic, I used to leave early. I carried a book. Read 1 book every week standing/sitting in a metro. That's how I learnt to read fast.
Stayed back at my office for as long as possible & prepared for GMAT (so that I didn't have to come back home to a dump). And, I ended up getting a 99th%ile, highest achievable score.
I had no real plans of applying to study abroad. I just couldn't afford it (I wanted to but couldn't afford). But, I knew, if I aced the GMAT, I could teach foreign clients who would pay well.
99th percentile score gave that ticket. So I started teaching: how to ace the GMAT. And, I moved to a better place.
Life started changing bit by bit: my student (who was applying for an Executive MBA) encouraged me to apply abroad. So I did. And, got into some of the best programs with scholarships.
At 26, I took my first international flight. And, I moved to Singapore. I saw what better life was. No one in my family had even travelled abroad.
Here is the most important lessons I learnt along the way:-
You are responsible for your own life. The day you start assigning responsibility to others to improve "your" life, is the day you lose control.
Our brains are massively powerful: they work like compass, if you convince it to achieve something, it will figure out a way.
@HydRE36406593 Spot-on. Very price sensitive. The challenge is to blend affordability with some aspirational value while trying to operate in the upper band of a tight price range.
Reminds me of what brands like Peter England, Ruf and Tuf etc. did in the early 90s, and perhaps Zudio now.
@realhyderabad86 Never?
- Father sold flats for 2400/sft in 2008 in Puppalguda
- Bought my 1st flat for 1675/sft in 2012 in Puppalguda
- BiL bought a flat in Amaravati area (close to Jayabheri Capital) for 3200 in 2018
- Flats in same community were available for 2500 in 2024 before election
@HydRE36406593 Yeah, I guess some finfluencer style push will help drive broader adoption. Invest the differential in SIPs, and become a millionaire!
My biggest source of joy was getting taxpayer money from the Government. Trust me, felt much better than a tax refund :-)
My coolest project this year? Installing rooftop solar!
- Got govt subsidy
- Secured a soft loan
- Brought electricity bills down to almost zero
- Zero capital outlay, cash flow +ve from Day 1
- It’s great for the planet too
Go for it if you have a rooftop!
@kvvsgopalrao Election expenditure is a leading indicator of systemic corruption that follows. As long as it continues to go up, there is no place for morally upright bureaucrats. They will be tired of fighting against the system that they will either move on or join the system
