In addition to hospitalized patients, the emergency voting process can apply to caretakers and family members of patients who may also be unable to travel to the polls on #ElectionDay, said Brown undergraduate Nicole Burns, a co-director for Patient Voting.
A group of students is working to increase voter turnout by going to Rhode Island hospitals and clinics to help patients cast their ballots right from their bedsides.
"Regardless of the candidates or offices up for election, our health is always on the ballot."
