It’s been a minute.
2015–2018
- Exited FreeCharge. Spent time learning and investing.
- Pondered about: Why can't trust be rewarded? Started with $1M of personal capital.
- Launched CRED to reward people for paying credit card bills on time.
2019–2025
- Built a system run by a team that values ownership, judgment, and craft.
- Grew from 0 to 17M members by aligning incentives with behaviour.
- Built several products during COVID lockdowns.
- Raised $900M+ from global investors. Did 4 ESOP buybacks.
- Made Indiranagar and IPL ads slightly more interesting.
- Received a full stack of regulatory licences.
- Lost 35 kilos.
- Scaled from 0 to ~$325M ( ~₹3,200 crore) in annual revenue across payments, lending, insurance, commerce, wealth, and credit cards.
2026
- First profitable quarter (yet occasionally asked what our business model is)
- Raised another $900M from Meta in primary and secondary capital.
- Announcing our 5th ESOP buyback.
Today
CRED is ready for its next phase. I am stepping back and @miten steps in as interim CEO, partnered with an incredibly talented team. He has been heading strategy and finance and suffering me since 2020. I’m stepping away from the operating role and will continue as a shareholder. My commitment doesn’t change. Just the role.
Extremely grateful to our members, partners, regulators, and investors who made this possible. And to our board, Shailendra, Micky, Saurabh for their extraordinary conviction.
Team CRED, I’ll still expect you to be a 10x version of yourselves.
As for me, I’ll be joining Meta to lead WhatsApp globally.
Meta comes in as a minority investor in CRED. No access to member data.
While it’s come very far, the delta between WhatsApp today and its full potential is massive. I look forward to working with Mark, Chris, and the leadership across Meta for the next step in WhatsApp’s journey. Will, thank you for scaling something the world relies on quietly, and for making this transition smooth.
Onwards.
SpaceX IPO, listing, and beyond, is a true test for capitalism. The valuation does not fit any traditional matrix and is a huge bet on the future course of planet earth. Only time will tell whether we, the human race, have arrived into the fairy tale world we grew up in as children, or are in a mega bubble. Either ways, kudos to the man who came as an immigrant, and to the country that has allowed such boundless creativity to flourish despite all the risks it embeds.
@GabbbarSingh Sainik Schools - these are one in each state. Most Sainik Schools have world class infra for sports and extra-curricullar. Plus the graduate outcome is such that - at any time atleast 1 of the 3 defense chiefs is from Sainik School.

@Brijeshbsingh Absolutely true sir!!
On a lighter note, even my company has built an auto pentester for websites and firmware. It is capable of doing static dynamic and code analysis, reducing false positives plus writing workable exploits for each vuln detected. AI in offsec is 🚀
@GabbbarSingh I disagree. Real reason is we spend too much on White elephant PSUs like HAL and too less on real innovation power houses like startups and MSMEs.
Refusal of Govts to allow participation of these players all these years is the real reason behind this.
I have received cancellation mail for flight 6E 2033. My PNR - P2S2MY
But When I enter Plan B after entering the details, it gives me this.
Is the flight really cancelled?
Please let me know if flight is cancelled and if so why I am not able to proceed for plan B.

Yann is just plain incorrect here, he’s confusing general intelligence with universal intelligence.
Brains are the most exquisite and complex phenomena we know of in the universe (so far), and they are in fact extremely general.
Obviously one can’t circumvent the no free lunch theorem so in a practical and finite system there always has to be some degree of specialisation around the target distribution that is being learnt.
But the point about generality is that in theory, in the Turing Machine sense, the architecture of such a general system is capable of learning anything computable given enough time and memory (and data), and the human brain (and AI foundation models) are approximate Turing Machines.
Finally, with regards to Yann's comments about chess players, it’s amazing that humans could have invented chess in the first place (and all the other aspects of modern civilization from science to 747s!) let alone get as brilliant at it as someone like Magnus. He may not be strictly optimal (after all he has finite memory and limited time to make a decision) but it’s incredible what he and we can do with our brains given they were evolved for hunter gathering.
omg wow 🤯🤯🤯

@rao2z Ok:
- chain rule existed.
- Lagrangian mechanics existed.
- the adjoint state methods in optimal control existed.
But no one had shown chain rule could be used to train multilayer nets.
And *clearly* *no one* had actually made it work until about 1985.
