What actually happens in the body:
Your neck houses the carotid and vertebral arteries-fragile pipelines supplying blood to your brain.
Forceful, sudden twisting (DIY neck cracking or aggressive manipulative adjustments) can tear the delicate inner lining of these vessels.
In school, we once had a typing class to improve our typing speed.
We laughed. We mocked.
Considering how much time we spend on our computers, it's a high-value skill.
Today, a patient with ~90% internal carotid artery stenosis came to me after a recent ischemic stroke. We discussed the benefits and risks of carotid revascularization, a complex conversation involving stroke recurrence, procedural risks, timing, medications, and long-term outcomes.
During the consultation, I noticed one of the family members quietly recording our discussion on his phone. Instead of objecting, I encouraged him to record it properly.
Why did I do so?
Because medical consultations often involve a large amount of information delivered in a short time. Many patients forget 40–80% of what they are told, and much of what they remember may be inaccurate.
Audio recordings can help patients and families:
✅Replay the discussion at home.
✅Better understand complex treatment options.
✅Share the information with family members who were not present.
✅Make more informed decisions.
✅ Improve adherence to treatment.
▶️Several studies have found that providing patients with recordings of their consultations improves information recall, understanding, satisfaction, and involvement in decision-making, especially in consultations involving difficult treatment choices.
▶️That said, recordings should be used responsibly.
Patients should ideally inform the doctor that they wish to record the consultation. Doctors should also ensure that the recording does not compromise the privacy or confidentiality of other patients or healthcare staff.
▶️The NMC Code of Medical Ethics in India does not prohibit patients from recording their own consultation. At the same time, doctors have a professional duty to maintain confidentiality, communicate clearly, and respect patient autonomy.
✅Personally, if a recording helps a patient better understand their illness and make an informed decision, I usually welcome it.
✅Medicine works best when it is built on trust, transparency, and shared decision-making.

Med students, listen up! Today let me explain how to analyze a Liver Function Test (LFT) step by step.
Stop looking at isolated HIGH or LOW flags on a lab report. You need to look at the patterns. Here is how you actually read an LFT panel like a CONSULTANT 👇 (1/10)

Sleeping early helps if you have emergency calls as a doctor. Slept at 9.30pm and woken up at 3.15am for an emergency angioplasty. Now going back home. Will catch some more sleep before starting the day. #MedTwitter
Sharing my experiences of running
I started regularly running in November 2020 (in the 50th year of my life). This is my 6th year as a runner. During this period, I have run more than 1000 10k runs and more than 150 half marathons.
Running has resulted in several health-related benefits. Notable ones among them include about 30 Kg weight loss (I weighed about 100 Kg before I started running) and reduction in resting heart rate to 40-45 bpm (from 70-75 bpm).
In this post, I will share my experiences (as well as my learning from published research studies) about running. Like, share, re-post, bookmark this post. Post your comments and queries below.
