I quit drinking 15 years ago today.
Most of y’all know the story by now. It was 2009 and I had been spiraling downward for years thanks to a combination of depression and alcohol. My wonderful boss offered me the opportunity to get sober and the idea just clicked in my booze-addled brain.
It was, quite simply, an epiphany from my very first day of treatment. I am incredibly lucky because I haven’t had a serious thought about taking a drink since that moment of clarity 5,475 days ago.
My message to you, as always, is that if you’re worried about overdoing booze or pills, talk to someone. Don’t wait anymore. Find an AA meeting, sit your ass down and listen. You’ll quickly discover there are lots of people like you who’ve faced this shit head on and now seem to be living nice normal lives without the chaos of addiction. When you’re ready, tell your story honestly and ask them what you should do to stay sober. Then take that advice. Don’t overthink it. Just do it. And remember, sobriety is cool.
Something else happened during those life-changing few weeks a decade and a half ago: I met a woman named Kim Metheny. We connected via Match shortly after I got sober. She claims she was just looking for a date to a Christmas party, not a soulmate. Yet, that’s exactly what she was for me then and still is today. She’s my best friend too. We’ve been on some amazing adventures, we laugh a lot, and we’ve combined a couple of families into a big crazy collection of kids and grandkids.
Mrs. Jones is creative, artistic, hilarious, hard-working and kind. She even has a way cooler job than me. She helps run an amazing non-profit called BigHearted Blooms that delivers thousands of bouquets of repurposed flowers to people who need a little joy in their life. She’s also gorgeous.
After 15 years of sobriety, I’m incredibly grateful for the life I have. But I am most grateful for the woman I share it with. I love you baby…and thanks.

The guys behind the scenes at the US Open don’t get enough of the glory. Equipment Managers are arguably the most important people at any golf course, late nights and early mornings in the shop prepping and fixing equipment for the next day. Major thanks to the shop team!!!

Congratulations to Jon Jennings on earning the E.J. Marshall Platter for outstanding partnership preparing Shinnecock Hills for the U.S. Open. Hosting the U.S. Open at such an iconic venue as he prepares to retire after more than 40 years in course maintenance is truly special!
Some golf properties test everything you know about turf management. Shinnecock Hills is one of them. Revolution helps. Look at it glow.

@PatJonesTweets asked Peter Barnaby of Shinnecock Hills about the club's experience using Revolution. His verdict? It's improved moisture availability, hand-watering efficiency, & turf health across the property. “It’s kind of been a game-changer for us.” Read the full Q&A: https://t.co/AgeC2q2OeI
