El 1 de julio de 1986, hace 40 años, el sello RCA-Ariola Internacional lanzó oficialmente ‘Pensamientos’, álbum de Juan Gabriel que incluye entre sus piezas ‘Hasta que te conocí’, composición del propio Juan Gabriel, grabada en 1985 en Albert’s Home Studio, en El Paso, Texas, estudio donde ‘El Divo de Juárez’ grabó, arregló y produjo trabajos para sí mismo y para otros artistas. Sin duda, una de las canciones más desgarradoras de su repertorio; el impacto fue tal que, semanas después, el álbum debutó en el Top Latin Albums de Billboard, ingresando en agosto de ese mismo año en el puesto #14.

Para mí, su mejor versión es esta, en Bellas Artes ¡Feliz 40 aniversario a este clásico!

Reading while waiting for today’s US Supreme Court’s Birthright Citizenship decision. This cartoon from Robert and Mabel Williams’s “The Crusader” should remind us all that the fever dreams of white US nativists (and non-white devotees of that ideology like Clarence Thomas) have never matched with reality. The dissents in this case will be historic either way. The court could do anything, but attacking birthright citizenship would only hasten the implosion of white nationalism in this majority non white would, not enhance or protect it. Sorry Stephen Miller, Russ Vought, Kevin Roberts, Donald Trump, Eric Schmitt, Elon Musk and all the rest. You’ve peaked. It’s downhill from here on in.
