@ron_eisele Ivan Roberts was shot down and killed by Franz Büchner, his 34th victory. Max Ritter von Mulzer had been dead for exactly two years, killed in an accident Sept. 26, 1916.
@ron_eisele Seven of the eight are wearing Heinicke parachute harnesses. 4th from left (von Winterfeld) is one of the numerous German pilots that wore glasses. 5th from left (Koepsch) has a dueling scar, very fashionable back then.
@ron_eisele Only the very earliest Albatros V-strutters had the radiator centered on the wing. They were quickly offset to the right at the request of pilots to help reduce/prevent scalding by hot water if it were punctured.
@MLBNetwork So the schedule says you nimrods are showing D'Backs-Giants Friday evening. But you are actually showing Big Inning. There are no other games on so it is not a conflict. What's wrong with you people? Can't you even follow your own schedule?
@MLBNetwork@Joelsherman1 You are barely showing any games anymore. You showed one game today, starting at noon (my time) and Quick Pitch now starts at 7:00 (my time). You used to show late games from the west coast, but in the last couple weeks hardly anything. SHOW GAMES!
@ThisDayInWWI Unfortunately, it never happened. Although German pilots made somewhere around 70 combat jumps and A-H made 5-10 jumps, to my knowledge not a single Allied pilot or observer made a combat parachute jump because parachutes were not available to them by war's end.
@MLBNetwork Why aren't you showing games on Saturday nights anymore? Last week and tonight there are still west coast games being played and Quick Pitch started at the ridiculously early 8:30, my time. Show games! 😡
@ron_eisele Unfortunately, the photo posted is of 22 victory ace Oblt. Hans Klein, not Johannes Klein. Here is a not very good blowup of Johannes Klein from a Jasta 18 group photo.
@ron_eisele In the foreground they are playing baseball. They even have a backstop with player's benches on either side. Baseball has been very popular in Japan since Americans introduced it in the late 1800s. In the background it looks like a game going on.
@EiseleRonald01 The British did not have synchronization at this time. Note that the Lewis gun is angled outward to shoot outside the propeller arc. This produced a very awkward shooting position that Hawker was able to master.
