The issue isn’t making ODNI smaller. It’s whether the appointment is intended to make personnel decisions more political and place Americans in danger.
Maybe someone needs to tell the intemperate jackalope @pulte that the classified intel he would learn as DNI he's expected to take to his grave unrevealed. That shooting his mouth off could land him in a prison cell. Maybe that will dampen his enthusiasm.
Extraordinary Letter.
Points to Bill Pulte appointment as national security danger.
"The undersigned include twenty-eight former service secretaries and retired general and flag officers who
collectively served under every president from John F. Kennedy to Joseph R. Biden, Jr"
2/ This paragraph nails it:
“The appointment of an ill-suited Acting Director could materially harm U.S. national security. Any prioritization of political considerations over strategic imperatives cedes advantage to our adversaries. So do errors of judgment arising from insufficient expertise. Our men and women in uniform rely upon the quality and integrity of intelligence gathered and analyzed by the eighteen agencies under the Director’s jurisdiction. With U.S. forces engaged in active operations abroad, there is no margin for error.”
"takes months to obtain" — I defer to experts, but have some knowledge. Tulsi has a clearance, and a history, so all they had to do was a refresh and go to a deeper level for top clearance. They would be starting from scratch with Pulte. This is serious stuff.
@pulte doesn't have a security clearance and the one that the DNI requires takes months to obtain with a proper background investigation. He doesn't know what he doesn't know, and isn't cleared to even discuss the work of the people—what they do and know—who he may try to fire.
NEW: Trump tells @schwartzbWSJ that he wants Bill Pulte, his incoming acting director of national intelligence, to begin the process of firing a large number of employees as part of a shake-up of the U.S. intelligence community.
President Trump’s favorite foreign negotiator, Steve Witkoff, and Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, have not met since March 11 in Florida — although Witkoff is reportedly going to visit Kyiv and Moscow at some point in the near future. (Witkoff has never visited Kyiv.) Witkoff and his primary partner, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, have had their hands full with negotiations with Iran in recent months.
Earlier this week, I met with an ambassador from a NATO member country who believes that the Trump administration has decided to more or less just not say anything about Russia and the invasion of Ukraine.
Trump’s White House Fight Night Has a Star-Power Problem
Dana White invited seven celebrities to the UFC fight on Trump's birthday: Adam Sandler, Guy Ritchie, Brady, Jared Leto, Jason Statham, The Rock, and Mario Lopez.
At least four are not attending:

Sir Alex Younger, the longest-serving head of MI6, has died aged 62. In one of his final interviews before his death, he spoke to Shashank Joshi, The Economist’s defence editor. Sir Alex reflected on the challenges facing a spy today and the future of Britain’s secret service. Watch the full show: https://t.co/4mYeNpxcXc
If he has no clearance, the FBI etc would be starting from scratch, not just updating and raising the level of a clearance that someone like Tulsi already had, right?
How many months does it take to complete the deepest background investigation required for CIA, or an ODNI/DNI clearance, @Mpolymer? 3-6 months? I wonder if he could even pass, and qualify for a highest-level clearance? This is madness.
New: Before he was announced as Trump’s pick to lead the US intel community as acting DNI, Bill Pulte did not have a security clearance granting him access to highly-classified information, per multiple sources.
ODNI initiated the vetting process for his security clearance on Thursday by requesting a background investigation, one of the sources told CNN.

There is not a single friend that I have (or even acquaintance I can think of) who has behaved the way Platner's alleged to have behaved. Not one.
"he twisted her arm behind her back, shoved her into a bedroom and held the door closed from the other side so she couldn’t get out."
That's an allegation of criminal behavior. The question is whether it's true, not whether it's severe.
Katie Miller: “You don’t think it’s a problem that no one’s ever found tapes?”
Todd Blanche: “What tapes?
Miller: “This is mind blowing for me. For sure [Jeffrey Epstein] blackmailed.”
Blanche: “How do you know that?”
Miller: “Because other people who have seen cameras have said this.”
Blanche: “Who? I’m not aware of that. Like if you know something I don’t know, I would love to learn from you. Who said that?”
@teknopunk_com@jimgeraghty@NRO LOL. He's been a giant lardass loser for years and is a pathetic Putinista punk. I love the story of how Judo Gene LeBell apparently choked him out on the set of a movie and he shat himself, after Stevie got aggressive.
@jimgeraghty He has been a giant lardass loser for a long time. I love the story of how Judo Gene LeBell apparently choked him out on the set of a movie and he shat himself, after Stevie got aggressive. He was made into a movie star by CAA super agent Mike Ovitz, who wanted to flex his power.
Pulte also had not been previously vetted for potential security vulnerabilities, a process typically required to obtain a higher-level security clearance, per 2 sources.
