@MaureenLangloss In his craft book Naming the World, Bret Anthony Johnston offers dozens of “Daily Warm-Ups” to help writers focus on the day’s writing, like your daughter’s scale-playing preps her to play music. The prompts are timed; writers spend 5-20 mins listing, describing, writing scenes.
