This is a great case study of how we can, with communication, coordinate resources and people to serve the common good.
Let's all strive to put our heads down, fill the sandbags, and stop the flood together.
Good work to everybody involved.
Starting on Wednesday, the City of Aberdeen partnered with our friends at Maryland State Highway Administration and Horne Concrete to take steps to prevent flooding of the businesses at W Bel Air and Route 40.
Dee's Florist, Tina's Trophy World, the Aberdeen Laundromat, Beacon Staffing, and Lisa Nails all experience terrible flooding because of inadequate rainwater drainage under the Amtrak Rail line.
In order to try to limit damage, crews from City of Aberdeen and Maryland State Highway Administration -- Churchville Office, and Horne Concrete helped to put more than 30 tons of sand in more than 1500 bags all around the two buildings.
@chadludeman @holz_bau @bobbyfijan@seandsweeney Fyi https://t.co/XTXe5DGIA0 that's the one. If the footprint isn't a constraint, then your biggest code issue will be the 100' from further point to egress :)
@MurphyJ@bobbyfijan Where is this defined? Last project I did required 2 means of egress from each bedroom- conversion from office to residential apartment.
@bobbyfijan I'm thinking on this for a few minutes: I talk to a lot of young people who want, dearly, to be of value to society. Everybody believes that "other people" have their act together. In reality, nobody knows what they're doing, and just builds systems from trial and error.
Anyone building Apartments has vested interest in helping bring workers back to Office
"The City" is first a place where people do commerce & exchange ideas. Housing, restaurants, retail comes after
Stripped of places of work, the city is reduced to a larger fancier outlet mall
We held a home dedication ceremony for Iesha at Edmund Street, Aberdeen, for what we call the "Habi-Tech" house -- the home built by the students of Harford Technical High School and completed by Habitat volunteers. Visit our Facebook page for the photo album to be posted today.
