When it came out that Rodri chose Barcelona over Madrid, David Ornstein and the English media went straight into attack mode. They're doing everything they can to either kill the deal or drive up the price to make it financially painful for Barcelona.

Ornstein never misses a chance to remind everyone that Barca are broke. Still talking about levers in 2026 is either wilful ignorance or an obsession with Barcelona.

So why all this?

If you follow Ornstein, you'll notice he rarely breaks Barça transfer news unlike Fabrizio, who seems to get most of it. Probably because someone in Barcelona trust him more.

Fabrizio has openly said Barça made his career by being the first club to give him a transfer scoop.

My conclusion is that Ornstein is bitter he doesn't have the same access to Barca as Fabrizio. Also, some of his older tweets suggest he's never really liked Barcelona. So it's possible this hatred stems from some childhood trauma.

As for the English media in general, it might be engagement farming because they know Barcelona have a huge fanbase.
