Had the privilege of flying the first ever Isle of Man registered Challenger 604 in 2009 from Dunsfold aerodrome via Cork to Teterboro, then U.S tour with owner.. west coast, Vegas, Miami, back to NY, then via Farnborough to New Zealand with a few stops along the way… and almost every ATC everywhere, including within U.S, kept asking what registry is M-EMxx… or what or where is IOM?! 😅
It was easy to crew the aircraft with either FAA or EASA drivers, as IOM accepts both licenses for validation.
It’s a big debate sometimes in my family & relatives / friends circle.
I am Norwegian / Swedish / Finnish with my DNA originating from north west Norway then through north Sweden to northwest Finland.
Half of my family is “Finn-Swedes”
- Sweden as first language & live in predominantly Swedish speaking areas in Finland.
They always bring up the historical events of Finland under Kingdom of Sweden etc
I grew up in the U.S, so I have sort of a neutral view of things and have read & studied lots of books & studies / documents on the matter for own fun & learning…
It’s much easier to say I’m “Scandinavian” to someone, just to point them the region where I’m from, rather than literally meaning it from a certain country in that region.
For example, all of my friends from Nordic region or their parents, never consider themselves as Europeans per se… they all hated when the whole E.U thing came about in around 2000/2001… and all the marketing slogans were, “we’re all Europeans now” or “We’re joining the European community”.
To this day, when I’ve travelled with them or they’ve visited me in the U.S, they never say we’re European, to them, that means like French/Belgian/Netherlands/Swiss//German etc..
One interesting study from 2010, which has been cited numerous occasions, has Finns & Icelandic people with the highest “Viking DNA” from all Nordic countries per population statistics,
Having spent lots of time this year both in Norway & Finland, where I have family…I think it’s allowed to celebrate one’s roots, but not avoid reality, obviously.
All of my moms side live & have summer homes on lakes, west of Helsinki, like 1 hour+ in predominantly Swedish speaking areas & their kids, my, nieces & nephews all go to Swedish speaking schools.
Definitely a minority group within Finland…… especially with the last 10+ years of foreign born migration into Finland.. makes them even smaller as they all have 1+ children per family, due to often both parents working etc.. and foreign born or second generation families have easily 3-5 children per family.
Nevertheless.. I have friends from Åland Islands, who 100% consider themselves Scandinavian and not Finnish 😅
If in the current world there are people identifying as women, then people certainly with proven historical DNA & roots, may identify as Scandinavian in my book.
Some will argue that the phrasing still only refers to a specific region, sure, however, certain people from that specific region spread their seeds to its surrounding areas, and those people look & adapted their language, manners & many historical aspects & traits.
Therefore, saying I’m “Scandinavian”, is not out of place, if referring to one’s heritage or general region in “common speak”.
One may then elaborate further to what it might mean to one more individually, like in my family, who most speak Swedish as first language and live in predominantly Swedish speaking areas etc..”
My 2 cents… ✌️
Congrats! 😎 I have a dark blue metallic 2012 1/2, 991.1 C2S full options with X-51 Power Kit, “GTS” basically.. I specifically sought one out during COVID, as I prefer the more narrow body style & NA engine, compared to newer ones with turbos.. and there’s nothing wrong with owning either 😅
My other is a 30 year old AWD 911 manual, which I use in the winter in snow to go skiing with…
Your GTS trim was the right choice to go with, in my humble view 👌
@sydor_greg Indeed! 😅
I always call the 604’s, the 737’s of PJ’s due to various reasons 🙃
I’d say about 7 months for the OVH’s to date, and will arrive in 2 months time I am told by CAMO.
Hats off to you, good Sir 😎
Operated several similar +/- RWY lengths on Challenger 604’s… last 4500’ was on a 900DX last month in central Italy for parking as Amalfi Coast & others wouldn’t accept us.. but on the Falcon with slats, thats cheating with her 109 Vref 😅
The 604 is “similar” to the G, in regards landing runway usage & Vref speeds… if heavy especially… but, like you said, know your numbers & knowing how she behaves under different overall loads w/fuel & pax etc… on MSL conditions that is, and even short short runways are open for the 200’s 😅
Took off on the Falcon 7X, June 25th in Toluca, Mexico, 8,465’ elevation to Iceland with 27,000lbs of fuel & 11 pax + luggage, and she used most of the 14,000’ RWY 🙃 + initially a bit “sluggish” on her climb out,.. but the view was magnificent…
Anyway, thanks for sharing, this was interesting to hear of the G200’s capability 🛩️
LGMK..2023 in Mykonos, Greece… VOR34, with slight offset… final approach often bumpy… and HLLM, March 2025 to Mitiga, Libya, also offset Localiser approach to RWY11, but I guess doesn’t count 😅
Till quite recently, used to do lots of single NDB approaches all around Russia and Kazakhstan… and many to airports in Russia that had no ICAO codes.. so we had to have a Russian “navigator” on jump seat with Russian plates for the arrival & approach…QFE too, of course,
Left the FMS destination empty and lots of HDG flying and jump seat guy doing most of the ATC work too 😅
Still think they should have gone directly to the G300… from G250 to G280 and now G300, but evolution is part of product development etc, as we all know..
I recall in 2011, when they could not name her, G250 - due to Chinese having an issue with that particular numerical combination 🤷♂️
Did a few delivery & ferry flights on G280’s… and have no gripes 😅
Friends made some pretty darn long range trips across the Atlantic even with 6 pax + luggage on them… and always enough reserve…
Order book looks good going forward, and had a client in Hungary who went from XLS+ to a 2026 G280, and then to a CL3500 eventually, due to SIM’s being in Vienna, and for the G280 - only in U.S.
@Selenaqawfh Azul E195-e2 ….🤔
In any case… E195-e2’s & E190-e2’s have become my favorite “regionals” 🙌
Flew on a Royal Jordanian 195-e2 few months ago, and what a lovely ride 😇
@CataPaul2 Was lucky to meet the Kingfisher Airlines owners crew once at Olbia, Italy, in 2010 summer, when they arrived on their VIP Boeing 727, and we got a tour of the aircraft 😎
@CataPaul2 My apologies for the gentle correction.
Finnair fleet is as of 2026 May:
A350-900’s
A330-300’s
A321’s ceo’s w/sharklets
A320’s ceo’s
A319’a ceo’s
E190’s
ATR72-500 & 600’s
With E195-e2’s on order for regional fleet renewal.
@CataPaul2 Let’s not forget about the ATR’s 😅 For which Finnair was the launch customer for also, and successfully flown them on cold weather operations ever since without an accident or issue.
