There is a โchanceโ #Patriots star DT Christian Barmore returns to practice this week, per Jerod Mayo.
Mayo adds that Barmore is ahead of OL Cole Strange in the rehab process.
@friars44@TheBigHurtHQ At the same time, the Bengals, Dolphins, Rams, Texans, and 49ers haven't exactly looked like Super Bowl winners this year either. Having good WRs don't mean anything if you're lacking 1) A good QB, and 2) A good OL. Pats have their QB. Now they need their OL.
The more and more I watch Drake Maye, the more I'm convinced this offense is an improved offensive line away from being a playoff team. A true #1 WR would of course be great, but if you give Maye time to do his thing he makes plays. OL also boosts the run game.
@dellavista11 Trading down would be the wisest choice IMO, especially if they get pick #1. Easier said than done, but adding draft capital to either bolster young talent or trade away to acquire vets is the way to go. Right now I don't see a great fit between need and potential draft position.
@SquirrelTheWR I'm in favor of drafting one. The right guys can contribute right away as a #2 TE. I mean obviously these guys are exceptions but look at Bowers, LaPorta, even Ja'Tavion Sanders. Just need the right fit.
In terms of skill positions, the Patriots currently do not have a #1 WR, but they've got several guys who are quality players. Adding a functional in-line TE this offseason is key. A guy who can block and catch (not many of them I know), adds another key element.
@kingvocho@patscap Absolutely agree. They've got talent at WR, but not one guy that is going to command extra attention. OL first, but then a true #1, a 2nd in-line TE, and there will be a completely new team.
@_lunardreams When you need five OL every play. You max out at 5 WRs/TEs/RBs. To me, it shows that flashiness is still the priority, especially looking at contracts, and the current state of the NFL with so many mediocre OLs.
Offensive line, as a unit, is the most important part of a football team, IMO. It solves all problems. Bad passing game? Run the ball. Run game struggling? Drop back & pass. The OL opens everything up. The fact NFL teams still can't grasp this fact is mind-boggling to me.
@_lunardreams Very fair counter point. But when teams are paying $30M a year to a WR when you can get two top tier OL for that same value, it tells me that they don't get that. The draft seems to be leaning more towards offensive skill positions as well. 9 OLs were taken, 9 WR/TEs.
