One factor behind #Patriots rookie DE Gabe Jacas’ absence is that he is not being given a standard “participation agreement” by the team, per @MikeReiss.
“Most draft picks receive such an agreement, which states that if they were to sustain an injury prior to signing their first NFL contract, the team would still be obligated to sign him to a contract based on the slot he was drafted.”
According to Reiss, along with Jacas’ hamstring injury during the predraft process, two sources from different NFL teams said their staffs passed Jacas on physical exams, though both flagged a labral tear in his shoulder that could “eventually require medical attention” — one of the sources also noted a stress fracture in his foot that could “worsen over time.”
“But a source familiar with Jacas' recovery said he underwent a knee procedure that was described as a ‘clean-up.’ It is not known whether something happened after Jacas' physical exam and subsequent recheck at the combine, or when the Patriots had him in for a predraft visit the week of April 20, and that information wasn't disclosed to the team.”
Messy, messy, messy…
Former #49ers All-Pro DE Aldon Smith spent part of the final day of his life delivering pizzas to a local homeless charity (pictured below).
Hours later, he was found unresponsive in a vehicle and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Smith was 36 years old. His cause of death is pending.

#Patriots DE Gabe Jacas is the lone second-round pick from the 2026 NFL Draft class who has not signed their rookie contract.
The Bengals recently signed second-round pick Cashius Howell, leaving just Jacas unsigned.
Such a strange situation…
The Germans are revering Taco Bell.
The Swedes are dumbfounded by ranch.
The English have discovered the sun.
Just wait until the Europeans look up and see this ahead of Tunisia-Uzbekistan.
OBSESSION is back at the #1 spot in America, surpassing SCARY MOVIE this Monday.
This is unprecedented, this century, for a movie heading into its fifth week in peak summer (June/July).
#Patriots QB Drake Maye hit A.J. Brown on a back-shoulder high point fade for a touchdown from about 20 yards out. Kindle Vildor was in coverage.
Kayshon Boutte followed that up by beating Kobee Minor on a go ball for six on a pretty pass from Tommy DeVito.
AJ Brown on joining the #Patriots:
“It’s amazing, bruh. It’s exciting, bruh. I’m just ready to ball.”
Brown also seems to be impressed with Kyle Williams early on 👀
“K Dub is cold, bro. K Dub cold.”
