can i say something... warning: long post ‼️

i saw something that got me thinking about rafayel and how easily his emotional struggles can be dismissed bc of the WAY he expresses them, calling him overdramatic, overreacting, immature or wtv.

personally, i see rafayel as a very emotionally mature li. ofc he has a lot of questionable actions but i still think he handles things the best overall. he's also started opening up more to mc which shows his progress. i think when he's being "overdramatic" or "overreacting" thats just one of the ways he copes. in the same way sometimes he just wants to be comforted too. from his pov, he's basically a god with a traumatic past and huge responsibilities so it makes sense that seeking help or expressing vulnerability in a "normal" way might be difficult for him. he's so used to being strong and carrying everything himself that he doesnt always know how to directly say that he needs someone. and the fact that he mainly shows this side of himself with mc makes it even more meaningful bc it suggests that he feels safe enough with her to be vulnerable.

a lot of ppl are just too shallow in how they interpret his character when he's such a nuanced character overall. they're so used to patriarchal ideas of what emotional maturity should look like in men like being stoic, independent and emotionally restrained that instead of breaking away from those expectations, they end up judging rafayel through the same lens. they see his emotionality and need for reassurance as immaturity without considering why he behaves that way, what he's been through or what he's actually trying to communicate.

and to ME, being emotionally mature doesnt mean never being dramatic, needy or having unhealthy coping mechanisms. its more about being able to recognize your emotions, be vulnerable, take responsibility and grow from them. rafayel is not emotionally "perfect" in every aspect (he's perfect to me tho idc) but he does show that growth esp in how he gradually becomes more open with mc. thats what makes him emotionally mature to me 🥲
