Earlier today, I hosted development partners to a breakfast meeting in Nairobi for an engagement on developing a framework that guides coordinated peace building initiatives targeting communities living at our borders.
The success of the ASALS and Cross-Border Community Integration and Sustainable Peace Programming Framework will depend on collective ownership, co-creation and collaboration of all stakeholders aligning ongoing and future interventions, adopting joint programming and resource mobilization in tackling challenges such as conflicts caused by cattle rustling in ASAL areas.
The Principal Secretary for ASALs & Regional Development Mr. Kello Harsama; IGAD Head of Mission to the Republic of Kenya - Dr. Fatuma Adan; Director of Programmes, Life & Peace Institute (LPI) - Ms. Jody Henderson and Chief Executive Officer, Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) Kenya - Dr. Idle Farah were present among other invited guests.

Officiated by cabinet colleague, CS Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, I graced a historic and colourful ground breaking ceremony marking the commencement of oil field development operations at South Lokichar Basin, a key investment project in Turkana County.
I urged the local community to support the new investor as I reiterated the commitment of H.E President Ruto in reviving the local economy and re-opening employment opportunities in the area through this project.
Together with the Deputy Chief of Staff (State House) Hon. Josphat Nanok, we drummed up support for the Broad-Based Government beyond 2027.
Area leaders led by Turkana Deputy Governor H.E Dr. John Erus, Senator James Lomenen, MPs Hon. Nixon Ng'ikolong' (Turkana East), Hon. Dr. Ariko Namoit (Turkana South), Hon. Dr. Protus Akuja (Loima), Hon. Emathe Namuar (Turkana Central) and MCAs expressed optimism with the resumption of Oil Field Development.
Turkana County Commissioner Julius Kavita led national government officials in attending the event.

Today, joined virtually by my colleague Dr. Deborah Barasa, I led the Kenyan delegation at the 11th Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Environment and Natural Environment Resources Management (SCENRM) of all the EAC Partner States to review progress and provide policy guidance on matters related to climate change, terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, pollution control and waste management as well as EAC's participation in regional and international climate fora.
The Ministerial session considered and approved three policy documents: Reviewed EAC Climate Change Policy, EAC Water Policy and EAC Regional Framework on Implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Johnson Weru, Secretary of Trade Partnerships and Julius Mwabu, Ag. Secretary of Integration, along with other senior officers from the Ministries of East Africa Community Affairs and Environment, Climate Change and Foretry in Kenya, were present.

From the struggles of relying on small parcels of farms faced with constant water shortage and invasion of the prosopis juli flora plant, we are collaborating with Nadocha community in Turkana to reclaim 400 acres of and rehabilitating 4.5 Kms of canal to enhance food production.
