In his recent show, Fareed Zakaria laid out a pretty sobering reality check about what’s actually happening to NATO.

Trump claims he’s saving Americans money by forcing Europe to spend more, but that’s a total myth. European defense spending is at its highest in decades, yet America’s own budget is ballooning to a massive $1.5 trillion.
As Zakaria notes, "American defense spending has never been determined by the needs of NATO"—it’s about Washington’s obsession with dominating the globe, from the Middle East to space.

The U.S. used to rely on the "enormous advantages" in Europe—dozens of bases and the ability to project power anywhere.
Now, because Trump acts like an unreliable, sometimes "hostile" partner, European nations are realising they can't afford to be "differential" to Washington anymore.

It’s not just policy, it’s the constant, chaotic outbursts. When Trump threatens to treat a country like Denmark, a core ally, as a real estate deal, it forces everyone to wake up. Zakaria highlights that Europeans now fear Trump might "withhold software upgrades or spare parts" for their own weapons just because he’s in a bad mood.

The most chilling point Zakaria makes is that the post-1945 order worked because it stopped European countries from having to act like traditional, competitive "great powers" again.
By breaking that system, Trump is inadvertently waking up the old ghosts of European rivalry.

As Zakaria concludes, the U.S. is entering a new, dangerous chapter: "Over time Americans will come to miss the old NATO not because it was fair but because it was the most successful security system the world has ever known".

Watching the U.S. trade its global influence for "reality TV" politics isn't just confusing—it’s starting to look like a historic mistake that leaves the rest of us having to plan for a world where we can’t count on America at all.

I thank all friends of Ukraine and everyone who helps us obtain important information and supports Ukrainian intelligence operations. Our intelligence agencies reported on the results of their work to assess the internal situation in Russia and obtain documents that end up on the Russian leader’s desk. We understand that Putin rarely receives information that is entirely truthful and unvarnished. But even what he sees in the documents that reach him still allows conclusions to be drawn.

In particular, the so-called “projected indicators” of Russians’ dissatisfaction with Putin will continue to rise steadily, and he is already being conditioned to accept the idea that this growing dissatisfaction cannot be stopped and that this indicator “will not plateau” by September, when parliamentary elections are scheduled in Russia.

As for the level of support for Russia’s ruling party, a steady downward trend is being recorded, which means significantly greater electoral fraud will be needed. They are also reporting a substantial rise in protest sentiment in Russian regions. We believe these reports also do not yet take into account the potential events of June, July, and August, which are bound to further affect the situation in Russia.

The entirely justified pressure on Russia over this war will continue and intensify – and it won’t be just our pressure. So by September, Putin will be facing significantly worse indicators. Unfortunately, to all the public and non-public peace proposals we have made, the only response has been words about continuing his war.

The internal situation in Russia should convince him of the opposite: that peace is needed. Ukraine is proposing to negotiate a dignified peace. Obviously, the trends will not change, and over time this may mean that an agreement will have to be reached with someone else from Russia – someone who will not shut themselves off from reality. Glory to Ukraine!

Many people are still often saying "France 🇫🇷 surrender", which is completly ridiculous.

Here is the real version of what happened and why France lost the 6 weeks campaign :

🔹From 1919 to 1939, France was abandonned. It helped central Europe to survive against communists and while Germany was not respecting Versailles Treaty, it was abandonned by the allies (UK, US)
🔹When Hitler entered Rhenania and invaded Austria and Czecoslovakia, no one said anything, France was alone and an intervention was impossible due to internal pacifism.
🔹In 1939, France could have done much better against nazi Germany, especially when it invaded Poland and Norway, that's right
🔹In May 1940, Germany had 2 times more population than France and a way bigger industrial capacity. German military strategy was also younger and better.

🔹However, in May 1940, France was the lone country effectively fighting Germans and Italians in Europe : the french army fought but lacked crucial air power, tanks organisation, communication and movement.
🔹In Dunkirk, the french army fought firmly to allow all the british troops to flee to the UK. Part of the french army was captured to save the british. The UK then refused to send more planes and troops to France. They did help a lot and managed to liberate Western Europe later with other allies
🔹At the same time, the Italian army started attacking the french Alps but got crushed and lost 2 300 men against 37 for France.

🔹What was the Soviet Union doing at the time ? It was an ally of Nazi Germany, it was invading Finland, occupying eastern Poland, Bessarabia and Baltic countries, while supplying Hitler with all the goods he needed.
🔹What were the US doing ? Nothing, they refused to step in the conflict and help their old allies, they waited until 1941-1942 to really step in the conflict.
🔹What were the other european countries doing ? Most were quickly occupied (faster than France), others chose to ally with Hitler and some remained neutral.

There were absolut mistakes in the french decision making and war preparation, while the french soldiers did fight a lot, losing 58 000 soldiers, but repeating "French surrender" is simply ridiculous when you know a bit about history.

The truth is (americans and others) are saying this for France (and not Poland, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg...) because they hate the fact France decided to be politically independant from the US after the war, not because it is the reality, and that's a shame...
