Great conversations spark greater impact. We were delighted to host the National Cohesion and Integration Commission @NCIC_Kenya – Central Rift Regional Office for a strategic engagement focused on deepening institutional collaboration to address issues shaping Kenya’s social fabric and strengthen inclusive development.
The discussions explored practical opportunities for the two Commissions to leverage their complementary mandates in expanding opportunities for Special Interest Groups, cultivating a culture of respect for diversity, and strengthening community resilience. Priority areas included joint civic education, community dialogue forums, annual debate competitions, enhanced support for Amani Clubs in learning institutions, and collaborative research to generate evidence that informs responsive public policy and programmes.
Coming at a time when Kenya is placing renewed focus on social cohesion, public participation, and inclusive governance, the engagement recognized that sustainable development depends on institutions working together to bridge divides, expand opportunities, and foster a society where every person is valued, heard, and able to participate fully in national life.
The meeting marked another important step towards translating shared aspirations into practical action. By combining expertise, knowledge, and outreach, the two Commissions are better positioned to empower communities, strengthen social cohesion, nurture responsible citizenship, and advance a Kenya where diversity inspires unity, inclusion drives progress, and equality creates opportunities for all.

Interesting Read | Women in Leadership
"Is there no woman qualified?" is not merely a question—it is a constitutional challenge. Kenya has no shortage of qualified women; the real test is whether public appointments uphold Article 27 on equality, the two-thirds gender principle and inclusive governance. Leadership should reflect the diversity, talent and aspirations of all Kenyans.
NGEC remains committed to advancing equality, monitoring compliance and ensuring no one is excluded from leadership because of gender. #EqualityKE #WomenInLeadership #Article27 #InclusiveGovernance @NationAfrica@Eastleighvoice@KEWOPA@unwomenkenya

STRATEGIC LITIGATION
The Commission, through Advocate @Desire01 Assistant Director, Legal Services, today represented Kennedy Muriuki Gachoki in a virtual session before the Baricho Law Courts in an ongoing matter involving allegations of a sexual offence. The case raises important questions on disability rights and access to justice after multiple psychiatric assessments found the accused unfit to stand trial due to severe developmental disabilities. The matter was mentioned to receive a Social Inquiry Report, which will guide the court on an appropriate, rights-based disposition. The Commission remains committed to providing legal representation to vulnerable and marginalized persons while advancing fair trial guarantees, access to justice, and the protection of the rights of all parties.
The Commission today hosted the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on gender-responsive migration governance, social inclusion, and the protection of vulnerable populations.
The meeting explored strategic areas of partnership, including the prevention of gender-based violence in migration contexts, protection of refugees, internally displaced persons, migrant workers and other Special Interest Groups, counter-trafficking efforts, policy and legal reforms, migration data and research, climate-induced displacement, institutional capacity strengthening, and civic participation.
Discussions also provided an opportunity to identify key milestones, persistent gaps, and emerging challenges within Kenya's migration sector. These included the need to strengthen gender balance in migration governance, address sexual exploitation and abuse, combat cases of trafficking and migrant smuggling, and enhance coordinated responses to safeguard the rights and dignity of migrants and other vulnerable groups.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of NGEC and IOM to advancing inclusive, rights-based, and gender-responsive migration policies that protect the dignity and rights of all while fostering stronger institutional collaboration to address current and emerging migration challenges in Kenya.

The Commission participated in the Survivor Leadership Initiative Learning Forum, which convened government institutions, civil society, development partners, and survivor leaders to strengthen survivor-centred approaches to ending Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C). The forum provided a platform for reflection, shared learning, and policy dialogue at a time when global crises and growing backlash against gender equality and human dignity continue to threaten progress in protecting the rights of women and girls.
As Kenya works towards eliminating FGM/C by 2030, participants emphasized that survivors must remain at the centre of policy development, advocacy, and community-led interventions. Their lived experiences are critical in informing laws, policies, and programmes that prevent harmful practices, improve access to protection and justice, and address the root causes of gender inequality.
The engagement reinforced the importance of strengthening accountability, promoting equality and freedom from discrimination, and ensuring that women and girls are protected from harmful cultural practices that undermine their dignity, health, education, and socio-economic opportunities.
The Commission will continue to work with State and non-State actors to influence policy, promote rights-based interventions, and foster partnerships that accelerate the elimination of FGM/C while advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across Kenya.

The Commission's Nakuru Regional Office joined partners, stakeholders, and members of the public in a solidarity walk and fundraising initiative in support of the Hosanna Child Advocacy Network (HOCAN) Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Rescue Centre, reinforcing the collective commitment to ensuring that every survivor has access to protection, justice, and a pathway to healing.
The initiative went beyond fundraising to spotlight the urgent need for sustained investment in survivor-centred services at a time when Kenya continues to strengthen its response to Gender-Based Violence. Participants affirmed that every survivor deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, with timely access to safe shelter, psychosocial support, healthcare, legal assistance, and economic empowerment to rebuild their lives.
The HOCAN Rescue Centre stands as a vital community resource, providing a safe and supportive environment for survivors while strengthening local efforts to prevent violence, enhance access to justice, and restore hope. The engagement underscored that effective responses to SGBV require strong collaboration among government institutions, civil society, the private sector, development partners, and communities to ensure that no survivor is left behind.
The Commission continues to champion policies, partnerships, and public awareness initiatives that advance equality, protect the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, older persons, and other vulnerable and marginalized groups, and strengthen accountability in the prevention and response to all forms of Gender-Based Violence. As Kenya accelerates the implementation of national commitments to end GBV, investing in survivor-centred services and community-based protection mechanisms remains fundamental to building safer, more inclusive, and more resilient communities.
Ending Gender-Based Violence is a shared responsibility. Together, we can create a society where every survivor is heard, every perpetrator is held accountable, and every person lives free from violence, fear, and discrimination.

The Commission, led by Chairperson @mamacount2017 and Director of Programmes Mr Paul Kuria, participated in a high-level Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Strengthening Women Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EWHRDs) and Climate Change Advocates' Political Participation and Influence, reaffirming the importance of inclusive climate governance that places women at the centre of leadership, decision-making, and sustainable development.
The dialogue brought together government institutions, county governments, development partners, civil society, Women Human Rights Defenders, and the media to examine the intersection of gender equality, environmental justice, civic space, and climate governance. Discussions highlighted that while climate financing has accelerated community resilience initiatives, significant gaps remain in implementation, financing, women's land ownership, and the protection of marginalized communities affected by climate change and extractive industries.
Addressing the forum, Hon. Jaldesa encouraged Women Environmental Human Rights Defenders to translate their grassroots leadership into political leadership by actively seeking elective positions in the 2027 General Election. She emphasized that women protecting the environment are also defending livelihoods, human dignity, and the interests of marginalized communities, and therefore deserve greater representation in decision-making spaces where climate and development policies are shaped.
The engagement also underscored the urgent need for stronger accountability, enforcement of existing legal and policy frameworks, improved age-, sex-, and disability-disaggregated data, and greater investment in gender-responsive climate action. Participants called for sustained partnerships to ensure that climate governance protects the rights of women, Indigenous communities, persons with disabilities, minorities, and other marginalized groups while advancing resilient, inclusive, and sustainable development.
The Commission remains committed to championing policies, partnerships, and accountability mechanisms that advance gender equality, protect environmental human rights defenders, and ensure that climate justice and inclusive governance remain central to Kenya's sustainable development agenda.

The Commission today joined a strategic engagement with the Parliamentary Committee on Implementation of the Constitution focused on strengthening representation of Special Interest Groups.
During the meeting, Members raised concerns over the underrepresentation of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) across the National, County and broader public sector. In particular, the discussions highlighted the need to strengthen inclusion of marginalized and minority communities, people with disabilities (PWDs), as well as women and youth, whose participation remains below constitutional expectations.
Members further proposed practical remedies to address these gaps, including strengthening enforcement of existing legal and policy frameworks, enhancing targeted recruitment, capacity building , monitoring and reporting on inclusion and promoting affirmative actions measures across all government levels.

@NGECKenya condemns the acid attack on the young gospel singer who is now in critical condition. This was a deliberate act of violence linked to prior reports of abuse that were not adequately addressed.
We call for immediate and thorough investigations, the arrest and prosecution of all those involved, and clear accountability for any failure to act on earlier complaints. Violence against women must be treated with the urgency and seriousness it demands.
No one should have to live in fear after seeking help. Justice must be delivered, and systems must work to protect survivors. @StandardKenya@NPSOfficial_KE@DCI_Kenya@ODPP_KE@Policare_Ke

We also monitored the Isiolo South by-election, underscoring our oversight role in safeguarding inclusive, transparent and credible electoral processes where every voice counts.
These engagements documented emerging challenges, elevated community-led solutions, and informed responsive policy action.
Equality demands sustained presence, informed citizens and accountable institutions. We remain resolute in translating constitutional guarantees into lived realities — where dignity, protection and opportunity are genuinely accessible to all.
#EqualityForAll #InclusiveGovernance #AccessToJustice
Reaffirming our unwavering commitment to equality and justice, the Commission, led by Chairperson @RehemaJaldesa, undertook an intensive civic education and public engagement mission across Isiolo South — advancing our mandate to promote equality, inclusion and freedom from discrimination at the grassroots.
Our engagement centred on Special Interest Groups, including women, girls, persons with disabilities and marginalised communities whose daily realities continue to reflect structural barriers to justice, representation and economic opportunity.
In Sericho Ward and surrounding areas, community members spoke candidly about limited awareness of their rights and existing reporting mechanisms, particularly in cases of gender-based violence and harmful practices. Such information gaps remain a significant driver of vulnerability and exclusion.
We strengthened public understanding of our mandate, clarified referral pathways, and reinforced institutional accountability mechanisms — ensuring that access to justice is not theoretical, but practical, accessible and community-centred. @Isiolowire
