In an unprecedented move, the #Hargeisa District Court sentenced author Adan Sahan to three years in prison for religious contempt. The court based its judgment not on #Somaliland’s laws, but on a book written by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, the founder of #Wahhabism.
A court has cited a Wahhabi text to send an author to prison. This happened neither in an Al-Shabaab-controlled area of Somalia nor in ISIS territory. It happened in Hargeisa, the capital of the Republic of Somaliland. There is nothing more dangerous than Wahhabi ideology, and I never imagined that a court in Somaliland would apply it. This is dangerous new territory.

Explosions were heard overnight in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, as fighting in northern Ethiopia escalates.
A source linked to the opposition alliance fighting federal forces claimed it carried out several drone strikes in the capital, including against military headquarters.
If confirmed, it would be the first known drone attack by anti-government forces on Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia had already banned drone flights over the capital and surrounding areas for security reasons.
