There was a group called Benefacts https://t.co/ZNIYBpjeh6 which tracked the charities and NGO's as to funding and where the money went.

In March 2022, Benefacts ceased trading following the decision of the then Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform Paschal Donohoe to terminate funding for the company.

Opinion

We all know by now that emergency accommodation is hugely profitable. Companies in this space pocket 40–70% of State funds as after-tax profits.

What people might be missing is that this entire industry runs on massive amounts of leverage. Loans from private financiers and alternative lenders fuel a system built to maximise profits while the taxpayer foots the bill...paying the interest!

We need to dig deeper into these shadow banks.

Its also important to point out that Coldec provides a lot of "homeless accommodation" - which is equally as profitable.

But given recent reports that "40% of single adults seeking homeless accommodation in Ireland are asylum-seekers coming from Direct Provision centres" - the question needs to be asked, where does emergency accommodation end & homeless accommodation begin?

Essentially Ireland is importing homeless people in the middle of a housing crisis & taxpayers who cant get a house themselves are paying for it.

Given that housing completion targets have come in way under expectations, it is safe to say this crisis will only compound unless we see DRASTIC changes policies.

But for Coldec every new crisis is a business opportunity.
