Minimum wage in the UK is backwards. The numbers just don't add up anymore.
Most people on minimum wage earn around £1700 a month after tax, national inraunce and pension contributions.
Now let say they're single and have no option but to rent.
They might be lucky to find a flat for £750 a month.
Council tax: £140
Utilities: £130
Phone: £40
Internet: £30
Food: £250
Transport: £200
Total essential costs: £1,540
£1,700− £1,540 = £160 left per month.
That's just £37 a week left for everything else clothes, toiletries, emergencies, socialising, subscriptions, unexpected bills, etc.
How is this sustainable?
