@Peston Wrong about one point especially, bewilderment amongst journalists and the general public, you mean amongst journalists and MPs. The general public are too busy trying to figure where the next gas bill is coming from to be bothered with this nonsense
@richardodurrant Look up the Crown Estate and the Sovereign Grant and the agreement George iii made in 1760, the King is effectively taxed 85%. Personally I don't think the tax that Amazon or Starbucks get away without paying is fair but each to their own.
@richardodurrant Doesn't even cost us that, under the original agreement we made a profit of £183 million, question is of you abolish the need to pay out the sovereign grant do you still get to keep the mechanism that calculates and pays for it?
@Peston@itvnews So the cost of sending someone to a safe country - not specifically Rwanda - is £169,000, compared to £106,000 if they remain in the UK. Or £290 million to not send 200 to Rwanda. Sunak could go into DFS pay way more than full price and still not walk out with a sofa!
@Conservatives@RishiSunak Instead of all this Rwanda nonsense has anyone considered processing the claims quicker? Within a number of weeks rather than within a number of years?
@KieranMcGuire Gave the scan as you shop a go in tesco, total came to £64.53. Deleted it all off and went through the self checkout instead, only came to £43.64. Every little helps
@absoluteradio@leonagraham Must be George Harrison, I believe they were great mates for quite some time before the travelling willburys happened and although the song was co written by Jeff Lynne, Harrison tweaked a few of the lines when they came to record it.
@JamesCleverly Here's a radical idea for you that could solve a lot of the problems you've inherited. Has anyone had a real long hard look at reducing the claim processing times, getting it down to weeks rather than months or even years?
