Tony Burke is all smoke and mirrors on migration
When they came to government, Labor said migration would be 235,000 this year.
Then they moved the goalposts in May this year and have blown past that figure by 60,000.
Labor still plans to bring another million migrants in over the next few years. That's if their "forecasts" come true.
Tony Burke is the Minister for Mass Migration.
ONE NATION TO SLASH IMMIGRATION BY 750,000
One Nation will reset Australia’s immigration system and slash the number of temporary visa holders and unlawful non-citizens in the country by more than 750,000 over three years. The major plan will restore Australian living standards, ease pressure on housing and essential services and bring population growth back to a sustainable rate.
One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson said Australians have had enough of mass migration and have been heard loud and clear.
“I know Australians are doing it tough. Families are competing with hundreds of people for rental accommodation. Patients are stuck in ambulances because there are not enough hospital beds. Young Australians are being locked out of home ownership while wages and infrastructure fail to keep up,” Senator Hanson said.
“The Labor-Liberal political cartel has sacrificed Australian living standards to serve vested interests demanding continued mass migration. Under Labor, the number of temporary visa holders has surged from 2 million in 2022 to roughly 3 million in 2026.
“A larger economy on paper means nothing if Australians are poorer per person and cannot afford a home, find a hospital bed or get ahead. A larger economic pie doesn’t mean anything if individual Australians’ slice of it is getting smaller.
“One Nation’s plan will return the temporary migrant population to around 2017 levels and the international student population to 2015 levels. Over the three years net overseas migration will be net-negative. Following this, One Nation’s net overseas migration ceiling of 130,000 per year would remain in place.
“We will crack down on illegal migrant employment, cutting off illicit income and encouraging departures. Illegal migrants will be given three-months to leave Australia. Those who depart will be allowed to apply for a visa in the future. Those who remain unlawfully after this period will be subject to immigration enforcement and a lifetime ban from re-entering Australia.
“Tinkering around the edges will not fix the damage. This is about giving Australians breathing space by drastically cutting the stock of temporary migrants, restoring control and making sure migration serves Australia
“Vested interests and elite economists will shriek at the prospect of these cuts. But Canada has shown you can cut migrant numbers, take pressure off rents and still grow the economy.
“Universities will still be able to enrol more than 100,000 international students per year. Universities that provide accommodation for their international students will get priority for these places. Our new high-value postgraduate study visa will also help attract the world’s brightest minds in science, engineering and medical research, giving Australia the talent we need to compete and returning universities to their proper role as research institutions rather than visa factories.
“The temporary skilled migration program will remain available and be driven by employer demand. One Nation will maintain the existing seasonal worker programs, such as PALM and the working holiday maker program. Employers will still be able to sponsor skilled migrants, but temporary skilled migration will no longer operate as a sham family migration pathway.
“One Nation’s previously announced policy to pause new migration from countries the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade rates ‘do not travel’ because of terrorism or other extreme security risks will continue to apply. The use of taxpayer-funded legal aid for visa appeals will also stop.
“We will take back control of who comes here and how many we accept, train more Australians, restore living standards and put the safety and security of Australians first.”

Laura Jayes and Pete Stefanovic break down One Nation's sensible and comprehensive immigration plan.
Laura Jayes has described One Nation’s immigration policy as a “serious”, “thoughtful” and data-backed plan that has had “a lot of work” put into it.
She said its proposals were sensible, carefully crafted and could “hit that right balance” as migration pressures increasingly affect Australians’ standard of living.

The vested interests are saying cutting migration will cause economic harm.
Australians have been living through ten years of economic destruction under mass migration. Just asked any renter or someone trying to get into a hospital bed.
GDP has gone up, but GDP-per capita has gone down. It's called a per-capita recession. Australians have been getting a smaller and smaller slice of the economic pie for years.
One Nation will turn that around and lift Australian living standards.
Vested interest are warning Australia could face a technical recession if migration is cut.
Australians have been in a per-capita recession for years. Their lives have been getting worse because of migration.
Canada has shown living standards improve when migration is cut.
The reason people have stopped trusting big business is because too often they defend the indefensible.
Like continuing to flood the country with mass migration to prop up their bottom lines at the expense of yours.
If you have a message for the business lobby about immigration, leave it below.
Australians are screaming out for mass migration to be cut because they are doing it tough.
They can’t find a home, can’t get a hospital bed and spend every morning stuck in traffic. I’m listening to them, not economists who keep getting it wrong, bureaucrats, politicians or big business chasing cheap labour.
More than 150,000 Australians are homeless, living in cars, tents or couch surfing. I want Australians trained through TAFE and apprenticeships, and I want migration returned to sustainable levels so our quality of life can improve.
I'm not I regret the way I expressed my remarks about Indigenous culture because upsetting people was never my intention.
I value everyone’s cultural heritage, but I will never back down from raising the tough issues: demanding equality, accountability and action on the Third World conditions, violence, abuse, incarceration and poverty destroying Indigenous communities. We are all Australians, and we need unity not division by race.
Meanwhile, people are digging up year-old comments to throw dirt at One Nation and distract from our policies. Even staff who have worked in other political offices say they have never seen anything like it.
The Prime Minister is also refusing One Nation fair staffing. One Nation gets less than half the advisers per politician the greens do.
I have just 2 personal staff in my office while the PM has 59, yet we are setting the agenda on immigration, net zero and other major issues.
He wants to keep me down, but I will keep being a voice for the Australian people.
Anyone can see Australians have only gone backwards under mass migration.
Canada has proven when immigration is cut, livings standards of citizens get better, not worse.
Media Release: Labor hiding plans for another MILLION Migrants.
Labor is trying to sell Australians a migration crackdown while its own Budget forecasts nearly another million people through net overseas migration over the next four years.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson accused Tony Burke of using political accounting tricks to look tough on immigration while cramming in even more migrants.
“Tony Burke remains the Minister for Mass Migration. Labor is trying to sell Australians a migration crackdown. But it’s just another Labor lie. Their own budget shows that they plan to bring in another million people over the next four years.”
“That’s on top of the more than 1.5 million people they have crammed in since taking office. That’s larger than the population of Adelaide.
“And given they have never hit a single migration target, even after moving the goalposts, you cannot trust this Labor government on immigration.
“Having flooded the country, they have also shown they are willing to throw regional Australia under the bus by starving them of labour and tourists in their desperate attempt to look like they are in control.
“The government would rather destroy industries in regional Australia than face the problem of unskilled arrivals and students head on.
“The Prime Minister’s $6 million golf course rort and these migration cuts say everything about Labor’s mindset. They will protect safe Labor seats and destroy the regional electorates they never expect to win. They will always look after their elite university mates over Australia’s farmers and regions.
“Australians now have a clear choice. Labor will bring in another million migrants over the next four years. One Nation will tackle mass migration head on and return the number of temporary migrants back to 2017 levels.”
Tony Burke remains the Minister for Mass Migration and another million migrants.
Today, Labor is trying to sell Australians a migration crackdown but it is just another Labor lie.
Labor’s own Budget forecasts nearly another million people through net overseas migration over the next four years on top of the more than 1.5 million people it has already crammed in since taking office.
Now Burke is using political accounting tricks to look tough while targeting backpackers and tourists, starving regional Australia of workers and threatening farming, tourism and hospitality.
Australians have a clear choice: Labor will bring in another million migrants. One Nation will tackle mass migration head on, return temporary migration to 2017 levels and put Australians first.
