My friend and comrade Dr Patrick Roach @PatrickR_NASUWT addressing the first session of the @NAHTnews about the work and ambition of the @The_TUC racism task force.
@GibsonAngi ready to respond to Sinead McBreaty of @EdSupportUK on Head Teacher retention at the Labour conference. From burnout to belonging needs to be real not simply a title.
East Midlands train back to London. Young man in a bit of turmoil going to miss his probation appointment asks me for help. Got to be honest I’m a bit lost as to what to do. Everyone turns away. Gotta say, the crew on this train have been fabulous. Humanity & patience. Bravo!
Our AGS for Organising, representation, bargaining and campaigns @rob_kelsall briefing our ever growing reps base ahead of conference. A union of its members, by its members and for its members. @NAHTnews
Getting ready for NAHT conference 2025. School leaders telling it like it is and campaigning for how it should be. @NAHTnews follow on our website from 3pm.
Ofsted asking for parents views on new style school report. Both headteachers leaders @pepediiasio & @PaulWhiteman6 are warning it could be worse not better https://t.co/TtojnRK6Oy
This is what it’s all about. Grassroots organisation and action. The strength of mutual support and the power of collective endeavour. Thank you to all NAHT lay reps, ordinary members standing up for colleagues and education, wherever you are! @NAHTnews
General Secretary @NAHTnews @PaulWhiteman6 updates officials on the great strides that the union has taken in recent years. Growing membership, branches revitalised and expanded officials base. The success is on the shoulders of our officials #NAHTofficials
@NAHTnews President Rachel Younger shattering the myth that ULTs plans to offer an alternative pension scheme is a choice. Choosing poverty now or financial fragility in old age is no choice at all. Nor is it for workers to solve the problem of underfunding by giving up value.
@NAHTnews Vice President Angi Gibson making the point that teachers and school leaders are entitled to respect and dignity. There is no excuse for abuse. #TUC2024
Very pleased that the contribution, ideas and innovation of the profession is to be taken seriously through partnership. Co-construction of solutions will bring real benefit to children and young people. @NAHTnews
I’ve reset the relationship between government & workforce — I'll treat you, and your unions, with the dignity you deserve.
I opened the doors to @educationgovuk to discuss how we work together to drive up standards for our children & young people, as we begin the new term.
We welcome the decision to scrap single-word Ofsted judgments and to shift the emphasis to supporting schools to improve where required.
But we would have also liked to see the removal of sub-judgments. It is vital these grades do not become proxy measures or given any sort of elevated status - doing so would undermine the positive benefits of removing the headline grade.

NAHT supported head teacher Kelly Vaughan in this landmark disability discrimination case against Ofsted. Despite her victory and Ofsted's apology, @PaulWhiteman6 says the case shows how far Ofsted still has to go if it is to truly change. https://t.co/ePVXmyXQyW
Pleased to have met with @bphillipsonMP today. I left reassured that this is a government ready to properly engage and put education at the centre of progress. I’m sure things will be tough now and then but joint ambition and mutual respect is a very good start @NAHTnews
We’re resetting the relationship between the government and teachers, so we can be partners in the push for better once again.
No more silly games. We will treat the workforce, and their trade unions, with the dignity and respect they deserve.
