@Archaeologuy What really seems difficult to understand is how this continues to be Democrats only real play; essentially every prominent Republican is accused of, and never actually proven to have assaulted a woman. Maybe try winning on ideas? Ever crossed your mind?
Fun fact, it’s estimated to cost between $11-$30 billion to end homelessness in America. Our lawmakers still haven’t found the funds for that but they’re funneling $75 billion to ICE’s budget.
Question for Americans from a dumb Aussie about the Minnesota thing.
Obama used ICE to deport approx 3M illegals, and got the nickname "Deporter in Chief". And he wasn't even voted in on doing that. There were some protests, but nothing even remotely violet or crazy.
Why is now everyone so violet and crazy? Is there any other explanation apart from Orange Man Bad?
@ElliottForWV The platform is the one getting serious? If any prominent Republican posted this you’d call it child abuse. It’s not, and that’s a cute kid but come on man, you’re a miserable shit poster…
@WVUFLU If they were properly trained, they’d be handing illegal aliens over after their arrests for violent crimes, rather than letting them back into the community. Then none of this would be happening…
On the recent shooting. I have watched as many videos as I can find.
Here are some thoughts (pls read all, not just one point):
1) There is a reason I was critical of politicians who encouraged bystanders to confront ICE agents. I correctly predicted it would lead to dangerous situations where people would get hurt. It’s not something responsible leaders should be doing.
2) Each incident must be judged individually. Each incident is also tragic because at least one life is lost and others will be affected for years to come.
But the question for each case is whether lethal force was justified. Whether it was justified in this case is not related to whether it was justified in the previous cases. I personally believe, based on the evidence I have seen, that use of force was justified in the Renee Goode incident. There are people who disagree in good faith, but many seem to be deciding their view based exclusively on whether they support or oppose this administration’s enforcement efforts.
That’s not productive.
I am not as convinced in this case that lethal force was justified, but believe it will heavily rely on the surrounding evidence.
The person who was shot was clearly interfering with ICE and detaining him would have been justified. But the key question becomes whether he was a threat at the time he was shot.
He did have a gun, which alone does not make him a threat. But it did create a situation where force could be justified if officers think he is going for the gun as part of his effort to resist arrest/fight back or if he tried to grab one of their guns.
However, some video seems to suggest he was disarmed before the shots were fired. Multiple agents were attempting to subdue him and he was definitely resisting, but whether he had access to a gun and posed a threat of using it becomes a key relevant fact.
Of course the agent who fired may have mistakenly thought he still had it and was trying to reach for it. None of this is easy because it’s a dangerous situation where armed agents are making life/death calls in a chaotic environment. But they are also trained for that very reason. And they do not/should not have free rein to use lethal force based on a mistaken assumption.
There should be a full investigation and it should be independent.
In addition, adults need to step in and lower the temperature to stop the violence. ICE enforcement is absolutely necessary, but the strategies need to be rethought to avoid such confrontations. Local law enforcement has to start doing their jobs and local officials need to start working with the federal government if they want to avoid more chaos. Those encouraging others to confront ICE agents doing their jobs need to stop. Or more people will get hurt.
We need adults to stay acting responsibly.
@Bakari_Sellers Yeah, but everyone who thinks because it’s too hot, too cold, too much rain, too little rain, increase in hurricanes, a decrease in hurricanes, no snow, lots of snow, etc. there IS global warming warming is just nailing it intellectually…
