The dominant element inside the "old-time music" scene are pseudo-academics rooted in the urban North, West Coast, or Washington DC area. Since WW2, this element has successfully infiltrated every college town in the South. Thus we find them well established in universities around Asheville and Chapel Hill in North Carolina, in Athens, Georgia, and so on. They have also taken control of folk music scenes in smaller towns such as Whitesburg, Kentucky and Elkins, West Virginia.

This element uses Black musicians as fashion accessories. In a similar way, they will occasionally allow a native Appalachian/Southerner/rural White to participate in their scene; however, they view such people as a threat. The Appalachian/Southerner/rural White is the true progenitor and keeper of the tradition they have usurped; therefore, they can only suffer those of us who acquiesce and/or enthusiastically parrot their lies.
