🌍 Visit to Citrus Clonal Protection Program, University of California, Riverside, USA 🌱

Under India’s Clean Plant Programme, a delegation led by Shri Kapil Meena, Managing Director, NHB visited the Citrus Clonal Protection Program (CCPP), University of California, Riverside from 29 April to 1 May, 2026.

The delegation interacted with Dr. Georgios Vidalakis and experts from quarantine and therapy divisions to understand:

🔬 Diagnostics and therapy protocols
🧪 Quarantine and virus indexing systems
🏢 Laboratory design and operational workflows
🌱 Clean plant production mechanisms

The team visited the quarantine facility, G1 facility, Citrus Therapy Diagnostics & Research Laboratory (CTDRL), and virus indexing laboratories to gain insights into global best practices for producing virus-free planting material.

The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s Clean Plant Centres through knowledge exchange and international collaboration. 🌿

At the National Workshop on Enhancing Apricot Cultivation and Value Chain Development held in Leh, APEDA reaffirmed its commitment to a defining milestone, the MoU between the UT Administration of Ladakh and Lulu International for the supply of 1,000 metric tonnes of fresh Ladakhi apricots, marking an extraordinary leap from the 1.5 metric tonnes recorded in the previous season.

The agreement, signed in August in the presence of Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, and Shri Avinash Purushottam Das Joshi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, laid the institutional groundwork for what is now becoming a transformative chapter in Ladakh's agricultural export story.

From varietal excellence in Raktsey Karpo and Halman to the promise of organic certification and global branding, Ladakh's apricot sector is undergoing a quiet but consequential transformation. APEDA remains committed to strengthening these linkages, connecting high-altitude farmers to high-value markets, and turning agro-climatic advantage into sustained livelihood prosperity.
