stop treating your stop-loss like an insult to your intelligence
it’s an invoice
nothing more
restaurants pay rent. stores buy inventory. traders hit stops.
here is the operational shift that takes you from a struggling retail gambler to an enterprise business:
THE COST OF INVENTORY:
retail mindset: "my stop got hit. i was wrong. i need to get that money back right now." (triggers immediate revenge trade)
institutional mindset: "my stop got hit. that was the cost of acquiring data for this session. moving to next asset."
look at the math over 100 trades:
TRADER A (Emotional Stops):
hits a $300 stop → moves it down 50 points to "give it room" → turns into a $1,500 loss → mental capital destroyed for the week
TRADER B (Business Stops):
hits a $300 stop → hard exit → looks at chart neutrally → realizes bias changed → takes reverse setup for +$900
your stop-loss isn't the enemy.
your inability to accept it is.
pay your business expenses quickly so you can focus on your revenue.
The secrets to effective & consistent profitability:
1) Adhere to a simple model.
2) Know what you want to make and it feeds you, leave something on just in case you were wrong about how much more.
3) Don't ask others for opinions, analysis or tips.
4) Manage Risk impeccably - ALWAYS.
5) Don't chase new things after you found your model.
6) Allow others to hold opinions - even if they are diametrically opposed to yours.
7) Unless you run a signal service, keep your opinions to yourself.
8) Make your bread, eat and go live for the day and find ways to bless others with it.
Anything else is BS.
I finally stopped overtrading the day -
I realized my friends are grinding 8–10 hours a day, 5 days a week, stuck in traffic for an hour, begging for two WFH days, and sucking up to their managers just to chase a 10–20% raise… all to earn $500–$1,500 a month at best.
Meanwhile, one max payout on my $50k funded account pays me $2,000 for barely 2 hours of work a day.
I’m not taking this life for granted anymore.
Time to lock in. 🔥
As a Trader, you will eventually mature into the mindset that all of your actions, planning, lifestyle changes are moving you towards a life without Trading.
Eventually, you will get the epiphany that your task is to get to a net worth that removes the need to trade. Your money works for you, on autopilot.
No real estate, no businesses, no employees, no sales, no concern for competition, no energy wasting pursuits for significance.
Fixed income on a well-earned knot... most never get this.
Be the exception, work towards it.
anyone can find winning trades,
few can limit the downside in between
the market remains irrational for longer periods than it is favorable
so don't try to cover losses with more wins,
allow the wins to matter by avoiding unnecessary losses
always operate from this perspective
the one truth in execution
good trades come easy,
bad trades are worked for
feeling conflicted
overthinking price
being hesitant
all signs of a market unaligned with your system
opportunity must be obvious,
anything less is not your trade
maybe someone else's, but not yours
