Our team noticed several years ago that museums were not ready for the lack of data / digital readiness that the pandemic has brought to our front doors. What are we going to do to save museums? #musetech#musedata#museumhour#knightfdn
We're in the middle of a global pandemic where museums and cultural institutions are being pushed into the virtual space and around 50% of museums surveyed have no dedicated digital staff or the dept was represented by a single individual #knightfoundation#musedata#musetech
31% of museums professionals admitted their museums did not have a digital strategy while another 29% said theirs was in development #knightfoundation#musetech#musedata
Also 41% of museums professionals state their museums do not have any defined goals, KPIs or outcome measures for digital projects, and another 37% do so only on an ad hoc basis. #knightfoundation#musedata#musetech
Only 7% of museum professionals report projects being driven by a cross-functional group. Why is this the case in a field driven by collaboration? #knightfoundation#musedata#musetech
While 54% of museums report
capturing basic feedback or demographics, only 18% are using audience data to shape efforts and offerings. So are museum professionals not making data-driven decisions? #knightfoundation#musedata#musetech
Digital projects are mostly siloed and outcomes poorly tracked: Approximately half (51%) of museums report that individuals or single departments conduct planning focused on a single project. #knightfoundation#musedata#musetech

Thank you to all participants and attendees for joining our virtual symposium 'Reframing Museums' in collaboration with @NYUAD. The 3-day virtual discussions were filled with insightful discussions and findings about the future of museums. #ReframingMuseums
The key is to use the extended period to deep-dive and develop a long-term strategy for the post-COVID-19 world. What will your museum look like when it reopens? The @worcestermuseum did it!

Here are some museums that are using the pandemic as an opportunity to form tight-knit, virtual communities with visitors, members and donors. #musedata#COVID19

Silence is an act of violence. If organisations cannot publicly declare that #BlackLivesMatter, they are complicit. Each have a responsibility to the Black community who visit, who are employed and whose culture is on display in these buildings. Now is the time to be anti-racist.
