Collector and Kodangal Authority Head Attacked by Villagers During Land Acquisition Hearing in Vikarabad

A tense and violent scene unfolded in Lagacharla village of Dudyala mandal, Vikarabad district, on Monday as enraged villagers attacked Vikarabad District Collector Prateek Jain and Kodangal Area Development Authority (KADA) Special Officer Venkat Reddy. The officials were visiting the area to conduct a public hearing regarding land acquisition for a proposed pharma company, but faced severe resistance from farmers and locals opposed to the project.

As Collector Jain and Special Officer Reddy, accompanied by Additional Collector Linganayak and Sub Collector Umashankar Prasad, attempted to hold discussions with the villagers, the protest escalated. Farmers, fearing the loss of their agricultural land and potential environmental consequences, refused to engage in the formal hearing process and instead staged a heated protest nearby.

The situation took a violent turn when villagers armed with stones and sticks attacked the officials and their vehicles, leaving three vehicles damaged in the clash. The intensity of the opposition highlighted the deep-rooted resentment among the villagers, who were adamant in their refusal to allow the establishment of a pharma company on their land.

In response to the unrest, a large police force was deployed to the area to bring the situation under control and restore order. Despite efforts by the officials to gather public opinion and address community concerns, the farmers remained resolute, emphasizing their unwillingness to surrender their land for industrial development.
