I had a productive meeting today with Mohamed Karim Fouad Sherif, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

We discussed strengthening the longstanding partnership between Somalia and Egypt, with a particular focus on counter-terrorism cooperation, preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE), regional security, and institutional capacity building.

We also exchanged views on current regional developments and the importance of enhanced collaboration to promote peace, stability, and resilience across the region.

I appreciate Egypt’s continued support for Somalia and look forward to further strengthening our cooperation on our shared priorities.

Mogadishu, 18 June 2026: Presidents Special Envoy for Preventing and Countering of Violent Extremist Ideologies, Hon. MP Aweys Mohamed Omar,@HonAweys held a meeting with the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt for African Affairs, H.E.Mohamed Karim Fouad Sherif. The meeting took place at the Embassy of #Egypt in #Somalia.

The discussion focused on strengthening the long-standing relations and strategic cooperation between Somalia and Egypt, particularly in the areas of #counterterrorism, preventing extremist ideologies, and youth development.

The meeting also included the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Salah Hassan Keshtash.

Aweys Mohamed Omar,@HonAweys held a productive meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, the meeting took place at the Embassy of Italy in Mogadishu.

The discussions focused on strengthening Somalia and Italy cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts, youth empowerment, skills development, women's inclusion and community resilience.

The Envoy also briefed the Ambassador on recent developments in the fight against Al-Shabaab and ongoing initiatives to prevent violent extremism, He also highlighted the ongoing efforts of his office in preventing the spread of extremist ideologies.
