Little update: I confirmed Murkowski's version of #SavannasAct is identical to Heitkamp's from last year. That means it includes real incentives for law enforcement to focus on missing and murdered Native women. (Goodlatte wanted to strip em all out, but he gone now).
Anyway-- Savanna's Act *should* be one of the easiest bills Congress passes all year. It's badly needed. Bipartisan. Doesn't cost any additional federal money. We'll see if lawmakers can manage it. https://t.co/18S22ovRxM
Why is this bill called #SavannasAct?
It's named for Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, a 22-year-old indigenous woman who was abducted and killed in North Dakota in 2017. She was pregnant and her baby was cut from her womb. Yep.
Thank you @jbendery for providing a platform for our sisters to be heard & illuminating the ongoing silence of our people who are being targeted through the most horrific acts of violence. I am grateful for warriors like you, who fight for humanity. #lovearmy#warriorwoman#MMIWG

I’ve always drawn inspiration from what Dr. King called life’s most persistent and urgent question: "What are you doing for others?" Let’s honor his legacy by standing up for what is right in our communities and taking steps to make a positive impact on the world.
The #WomensMarch in 2017 arguably gave birth to #TheResistance and inspired countless women to get active in politics and run for office in 2018. In fact we won the House in 2018 in part bc of the first March. My @thedailybeast article: https://t.co/6nihsQo09Y #WomensMarch2019
