@BallsInYaMe0wth @hankgreen It boggles my mind that someone can see the current data and think that the near-vertical uptick in co2 that corresponds with the uptick in global temperature that also just so happens to begin near the start of the industrial revolution is due to some "unknown" 10k-year cycle

@Jon_Chase03 I had the same exact experience when playing around with it. Asked it for a list of papers on metacommunity ecology in reef fishes. Not one of them was real, and it kept doubling down on the one I had it investigate further.

@KeevilMatthew Not sure what you find problematic. Whether the intent was to mislead or not, it was an intentional decision with the effect of misleading. And it is an indictment on the pub system that researchers cherry-pick results to get into "better" journals

This is in no way meant to take any of the blame off the researchers who very clearly and intentionally mislead reviewers and readers, but what strikes me is the toxicity of academic publishing that leads scientists to do things like this. There has to be a better system.

How to mislead in science: hide raw data in supp material (SM).
Just had a dept-wide reading group of a recent Science paper on latitudinal/temperature trends in predation pressure (10.1126/science.abc4916). Paper claims simple clean patterns (fig) but where are the data???
