It’s time to become one with nature🌲, Peakers!
There are so many ways to #GiveAnHour to Earth🌎 and support our charity partner, 🐾World Wildlife Fund.
How will you give your hour⏳ in nature?
Here’s your fifth challenge for #OceanConservancyChallenge, Peakers: Buy in bulk and bring the bag! 🙌🎒🛍️
Fact: Plastic bags are one of the top items in Ocean Conservancy’s threat rank report from 2015. In this report, plastic debris items were ranked based upon their quantified impact to marine 🐬species. Bags were rated as one of the top items with greatest ingestion risk for seabirds, turtles🐢 and marine mammals, and as one of the biggest entanglement threats to marine fauna.
Tip: Fill reusable containers with bulk items like rice, coffee, or nuts at your local grocery🍎 store. Consider buying family-size bags that you can portion out into reusable containers, instead of individually-wrapped single-servings.

Another example of sustainable, less plastic use as part of the @MyPeakChallenge#OceanConservancyChallenge for @OurOcean: a compact cutlery set, complete with reusable straw & chopsticks. This is about the size of a sunglasses case. @SamHeughan
Here’s your second challenge for #OceanConservancyChallenge, Peakers:
Take a stand on straws and quit the cutlery! 🍴
Fact: Plastic cutlery and plastic straws have been ranked as key threats to marine🐬 life. In a 2015 study co-authored by @OurOcean, cutlery was rated as one of the top two items with the greatest ingestion risk for seabirds, turtles🐢, and marine mammals.
Tip: When ordering food🥡 for delivery, skip the plastic utensils or chopsticks and use what you have at home. Grabbing food on the go or traveling? Carry a set of reusable utensils with you or order a meal that can be consumed without utensils (like pizza🍕 or sandwiches).

Fact: Abandoned, lost or discarded fishing gear — also known as ghost gear — is the deadliest form of marine debris, with pots, lines, traps, nets and buoys ranking as the biggest threats to marine life.
Solution: Ocean Conservancy🌊 is one of 130+ members working alongside 20 national governments to support The Global Ghost Gear Initiative, the world's only alliance dedicated to tackling the issue of abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear on a global scale. The GGGI brings together participants from the fishing industry, the private sector, academia, governments, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations to develop and implement scalable solutions to the ghost gear problem.
