@DPJHodges There would need to be 20% of PLP (82) supporting an alternative Leader (Rayner).
Then the whole membership and associates would vote, and likely pick someone different like Shabana Mahmood.
It's a big gamble.
@DPJHodges 20% of PLP needed. Current 403 Labour MPs. so 82 needed.
Although there may be 15 fewer Labour MPs by the weekend.
Obviously, culling the "rebels" could be used by Starmer to retain the leadership.
@DPJHodges Just several hours of intrusive interview with UKSV officers, after which they ticked the red "hell no" box...
but nobody showed that to Starmer of course. Even after the Epstein files were published.
Hard to believe.
@Zokko18@watp78@Steven_Swinford@DPJHodges Magna Carta and 5th amendment, but the way this applies to job applications is determined by written codes and customary practice. I very much doubt there's a handbook in Nr 10 on how to appoint a UK ambassador to the US.
@DPJHodges The questioning is brutal. The man is tying himself in knots and doesn't know what he's saying. If this was a court the judge would have called adjournment.
@Zokko18@watp78@Steven_Swinford@DPJHodges Unless you precisely define "due process", it's a meaningless phrase.
It's like defining a "birthday party" as distinct from a gathering of friends over a bottle champagne and a cake with candles on it.
And that is the problem when it comes to Privileges Committee.
@GBNEWS McSweeney being destroyed. Very uncomfortable viewing.
"The DD (due diligence) process looked inadequate to me".
He's struggling. Starting to contradict himself.
@DPJHodges What is the definition of "due process"?
It's just any process that is accepted as normal practice by those using it.
My plumber's due process is to offer a 20% discount for cash.
@DPJHodges Probably right. The same sort of "due process" that netted Baroness Mone £200m of taxpayer money.
There is no proper governance or oversight. The DV process for Mandelson seems to have been an accident, and was therefore ignored.
@DPJHodges Starmer's decision making has been woeful, and God knows what corrupt cronyism made rewarding Mandelson the number one priority for the Prime Minister.
But the evidence is that Starmer wasn't told about the DV outcome, did not need to be told, and didn't ask.
